The Academic Support Program (ASP) is designed to ensure that all first-year
students at Chicago-Kent College of Law develop the skills to succeed academically.
The program provides valuable information to empower students to become effective
learners. The program also provides additional assistance to first-year students
who may find law school especially challenging.
The ASP Small Group Sessions
are one aspect of this program. The Small Group Sessions provide the opportunity
for a limited number of first-year students to improve skills necessary for success
in law school by meeting once a week, as a group, with teaching assistants. These
weekly one-hour meetings are not review sessions of class material; the lessons
focus on skills enhancement in the context of the class subject matter.
Although
participation in the program is voluntary, if you are accepted into the program,
you are required to attend all Small Group Sessions, which are offered once a
week for each first-year doctrinal course. Day students must attend all three
meetings each week, while evening students meet twice each week. This attendance
policy is required to provide continuity to the Small Group Sessions.
Once
last semester's grade point averages have been calculated, we will send letters
to a select group of first-year students inviting them to participate in the Small
Group Sessions.
Students who do not receive invitations can petition to
join the Small Group Sessions. For the Spring semester, petitions will only be
considered from students who grades are below 3.00. Petitions should be submitted
to Jenna Abhijeet, the Director of Student Services. If you were in ASP during
the Fall semester, you will be automatically invited to participate for the Spring if your gpa is below 3.00. Petitions are due by Friday, February 13, 2009.
Petitions cannot be completed until after grade point averages have been calculated
and posted (we hope to have GPAs posted by the end of the week of February
2). Click here
to access the petition form. You can find more information about the ASP program
on the ASP website.
