RE: How Students Should Describe Their Clinical Education Experiences On Their Resumes

When students describe their clinical education experiences on their resumes, they should name their supervising attorneys or judges. They should also disclose that the attorneys or judges for whom they have interned or externed are their supervisors in law school courses, not employers who pay them.

Following these introductory paragraphs, I have set forth suggested descriptions for the Law School's five clinical programs. I have listed two descriptions for the Law Offices, one for the Civil Division and one for the Criminal Division; two descriptions for the Advanced Externship Program, one for a private law firm and one for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office; two descriptions for the Judicial Externship Program, one for an extern who is supervised by the judge and his clerk and one for an extern who is supervised only by the judge; and finally one description for the Advice Desk Program. These descriptions are models only; they will vary depending on the student's actual experiences.
