Services

The Chicago Kent College of Law Low Income Taxpayer Clinic is a full-service
federal tax controversy practice.
We represent taxpayers who are being audited by the Internal Revenue
Service Examination function in connection with their individual or business
income or employment tax liabilities.
- We represent taxpayers who receive notices from the Internal Revenue
Service Collection function concerning delinquent tax liabilities, and
assist taxpayers with securing installment agreements, offers in compromise
and/or other alternatives to full and immediate payment of the tax debt,
as circumstances warrant.
- We assist taxpayers who have received a Notice of Levy or Notice of
Filing of Federal Tax Lien.
- We represent taxpayers in connection with administrative appeals of
adverse audit or collection function determinations.
- We represent taxpayers who have trials before the United States Tax
Court and the United States District Court.
What we don't do:
The Chicago Kent College of Law Low Income Taxpayer Clinic does not provide
transaction-related or substantive tax advice when there is no current
dispute with the Internal Revenue Service. We do not generally prepare
tax returns.
Although the Tax Clinic does not charge fees for its services, any
costs incurred in connection with the representation (i.e., court filing
fees, extraordinary copying or mailing expenses, etc...) must be borne
by the client.
