Important announcements for all Chicago-Kent students from Jonnell Simpson of Lexis

Upcoming Training Sessions

Judicial Clerk Research Tips: Thursday April 4, 12:15-12:45 in lab 760. I'll cover common research tasks assigned to judicial clerks and the most efficient ways to complete them. (This class has been very popular and I'm working on getting another lab reservation on 4/4 at 5:15p so I can offer it to evening students as well. I'll let you know if/when the room is confirmed.)

Litigation Research Tips: Wednesday April 17, 12:15-12:45 p.m. in room 305. I'm providing lunch at this session. I will cover common litigation research tasks on Lexis Advance, including how to use Courtlink, Verdict & Settlement Analyzer and Litigation Profile Suite.

*If a student is unable to make a scheduled session, please have them contact me (Jonnell.simpson@lexisnexis.com). I am available to meet with them individually by appointment to cover the same information covered in the classes (or any other topic that is of interest to them for their summer employment).

Unlimited Summer Access!

Your law school Lexis Advance ID will remain active during the summer and you will have unlimited access to the content available to you in law school to be used for your academic, as well as any summer associate or internship/clerkship purposes*. Whether working in a firm, government agency, any of the courts, or brushing up on your cost effective research skills, you will have unlimited access to Lexis Advance.

Your legal education does not stop during the summer. In fact, some of your most valuable and practical legal education occurs during your participation in summer associate and internship or clerkship programs. In recognition of this, for the months of May, June, July and August of this year, the permissible uses of your law school Lexis Advance ID have been expanded to include use by you in these programs, including all research or other work you perform for the firm, agency, or court. You simply need to be registered for Lexis Advance.

If you plan to use your Lexis Advance law school ID for work, please let your employer know. They may prefer you use their Lexis account for client tracking/billing purposes.

Do I have to register for unlimited summer access?
  • No, if you're already a registered Lexis Advance user, you don't need to do anything else to get unlimited summer access. Your current ID is all you need.
  • Yes, if you aren't a registered Lexis Advance user yet (or aren't sure) please contact jonnell.simpson@lexisnexis.com.
When does unlimited summer access begin and end?
  • The unlimited summer access program begins May 1, 2013 and ends August 31, 2013*.
Can I start using my law school Lexis Advance ID at my job, internship or externship now?
  • Unlimited summer access is only for the months of May, June, July and August. You can only use your law school Lexis Advance ID at work during these months. The normal terms of service for your law school Lexis Advance ID apply outside of the unlimited summer access period.

Lexis to Continue Free Printing Program

Lexis will continue to offer free printing to the Lexis printers on the 9th floor of the library and in Lab 760.

If anyone needs additional information on any of these programs, please have them contact me.
