Leading Environmental Teacher-Scholars
Chicago-Kent College of Law's respected faculty are noted authorities
in their fields of scholarship. The program faculty are supplemented by
adjunct professors who are prominent in the Chicago environmental law
community.
RESIDENT FACULTY
Professor Fred P. Bosselman,
J.D. Harvard Law School, came to Chicago-Kent after a national and international
career in the practice of land use and environmental law with his own
firm, Burke, Bosselman & Weaver, Chicago and Boca Raton, Florida.
He annually co-chairs the ALI-ABA Land Use Institute. He is the author
of six books, including The Taking Issue, and many articles and
book chapters about land use and environmental issues. His experience
litigating and researching Endangered Species Act conflicts has led him
to write on extinction and the law and also biodiversity policy. He has
been an active consultant to governments, conservation organizations,
and the United Nations on the impact of rapid tourism-induced growth.
He has been president of the American Planning Association, assistant
chair of the National Policy Council of the Urban Land Institute, and
a member of the Board of Directors of both the National Audubon Society
and the American Society of Planning Officials. He has also been active
with the Conservation Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund.
Professor A. Dan Tarlock,
LL.B Stanford University, is a nationally recognized expert in water resources
management and law. His work in international and domestic environmental
policy is equally well respected. He is the co-author of leading law school
casebooks on environmental law and policy, land use planning, and water
resources law, and he authored a treatise on American water law. His recent
articles and essays concern such topics as global warming's impact on
western water law, water quality standards for interstate streams, corporate
disclosure of environmental risks, water reallocation, international stewardship
sovereignty, nongovernmental organizations, and international law. He
is vice-chair of the National Science Academy's Water Science and Technology
Board, has participated in numerous Academy studies, and between 1989-1992
chaired the Board's Committee on Western Water Management. Professor Tarlock
is vice chair of the ABA Water Resources Committee, Section on Natural
Resources and Environmental Law. He co-edits the Land Use and Environment
Law Review.
ADJUNCT FACULTY
Ignacio Arrázola
Mr. Arrázola is an Associate Regional Counsel with the Office of
Regional Counsel, U.S. EPA, Region 5. The majority of his practice is
related to the civil enforcement of federal environmental laws in judicial
and administrative courts. He also counsels U.S. EPA on the promulgation
of rules and the development of policy. He has worked with U.S. EPA since
1990. Mr. Arrázola received his J.D. from Northwestern University
in 1992.
James F. Berry
Dr. Berry is Professor of Biology at Elmhurst College and an environmental
attorney in private practice. Dr. Berry has served as a consultant to
numerous government agencies and private organizations, such as the U.S.
Fish & Wildlife Service, the California Resources Agency, the Florida
Committee on Rare and Endangered Biota, and the American Planning Association.
His current research includes wetlands and endangered species biology
and conservation. His publications include numerous biological and legal
articles, and the books The Environmental Law and Compliance Handbook
and Wetlands: Guide to Science, Law, and Technology. Dr. Berry received
his B.S. and M.S. from Florida State University, his J.D. from Chicago-Kent
College of Law and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
Keith Harley
Mr. Harley is Director of the Chicago Environmental Law Clinic. He is
one of the few lawyers in the country devoted full-time to representing
community organizations, minority groups, and poor people on environmental
justice disputes. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern
University School of Law. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton
Theological Seminary and he received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College
of Law in 1988.
Steven J. Murawski
Mr. Murawski is a Partner at Baker & McKenzie LLP who practices environmental law. He has notable experience representing clients facing complex Clean Air Act and RCRA permitting, compliance and enforcement issues. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Murawski served as Assistant Regional Counsel in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Region 5 Office in Chicago. He received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent in 1997.
Leslie Reicht
Mr. Reicht is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Defrees and Fiske.
He specializes in energy and public utility regulation and environmental
law. He was formerly an attorney for the People's Energy Corporation,
a pipeline and utility holding company.
