PDF: 2009-2010 Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law

Sponsor/Title:  2009-2010 Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law (co-sponsored by the Institute for Law and the Workplace and the Jackson Lewis Firm).
Topic:  Papers may address any topic relating to the law governing the workplace, such as employment law, labor law, employee benefits, or employment discrimination.  Only the first two submissions per law school will be accepted as entries for consideration. Submissions must be the law student author's own work and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors must have completed or be currently taking course work in employment or labor law, and must be enrolled in an accredited law school during the Fall 2009 semester. There are formatting guidelines that must be followed. For questions, contact Professor Martin H. Malin by email at mmalin@kentlaw.edu.
Prizes:  One top honors award of $3,000 and two $1,000 awards will be presented to the top three entries.  In addition to the cash awards, the top three entries will be published on the Institute for Law and the Workplace website. (Electronic versions of winning papers will be required).
Deadline:  Submissions are due no later than Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

1 - This sunday (10/4) the exec board is meeting from 1:30pm - 3pm in room 355. ALL LELS members are welcome to give your input and volunteer to help. We have big ideas and need your help!

2 - This coming week are the 'everything you want to know about labor and employment law at Kent' programs. Upperclass students, we still need panelists, especially for the tuesday program.

3 - On Wed. 10/14 at 3pm in room 370, Professor Eglit will be talkin about the Ricci v. DeStefano case... all are welcome. He will be discussing the recent Supreme Court decision in Ricci v. DeStefano and the potential effect that the decision will have on Title VII cases in the future.  We think this case is especially interesting to discuss, as it came through the Second Circuit while Justice Sotomeyer was on the panel.

4 - W. 10/28 - BOWLING!!!  BOWLING WITH ALUMNI!!!  8pm at the Lucky Strike (E. Illinois).  More details to follow.

5 - W. 10/28 - A possible practitioner's panel... more details to follow.
