PDF: 2009-2010 Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law

Sponsor/Title:  2009-2010 Louis Jackson National Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law (co-sponsored by the Institute for Law and the Workplace and the Jackson Lewis Firm).
Topic:  Papers may address any topic relating to the law governing the workplace, such as employment law, labor law, employee benefits, or employment discrimination.  Only the first two submissions per law school will be accepted as entries for consideration. Submissions must be the law student author's own work and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors must have completed or be currently taking course work in employment or labor law, and must be enrolled in an accredited law school during the Fall 2009 semester. There are formatting guidelines that must be followed. For questions, contact Professor Martin H. Malin by email at mmalin@kentlaw.edu.
Prizes:  One top honors award of $3,000 and two $1,000 awards will be presented to the top three entries.  In addition to the cash awards, the top three entries will be published on the Institute for Law and the Workplace website. (Electronic versions of winning papers will be required).
Deadline:  Submissions are due no later than Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
THE COLLEGE OF LABOR & EMPLOYMENT LAWYERS WRITING COMPETITIION FOR LAW STUDENTS 2009-2010

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2009-2010 College of Labor and Employment Lawyers Writing Competition for Law Students.

TOPIC: The scope of permissible topics is broad i.e. any aspect of domestic public or private labor or employment law. Students are encouraged to present (a) public policy issue, (b) practical implications of a leading case or doctrine, (c) comment on a statute or the need for a statutory modification and (d) comment on a common law doctrine.

ELIGIBILITY: All currently enrolled undergraduate law students attending accredited law schools in the Unites States.

PRIZES: First prize - $1,500 / Second prize - $1,000 / Third prize - $500

In addition to a monetary award, the winner will have his/her article distributed to all fellows with a future issue of the College newsletter and posted on the College's website. The ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law has indicated a strong interest in printing the winning entry. Winners will also be invited guests at the Annual Induction Dinner of the College where they will be recognized and honored during the evening program.

DEADLINE: Articles must be e-mailed no later than 5:00 pm (pdst) on May 14, 2010 or post marked no later than May 1, 2010.

3 - On Wed. 10/14 at 3pm in room 370, Professor Eglit will be talkin about the Ricci v. DeStefano case... all are welcome. He will be discussing the recent Supreme Court decision in Ricci v. DeStefano and the potential effect that the decision will have on Title VII cases in the future.  We think this case is especially interesting to discuss, as it came through the Second Circuit while Justice Sotomeyer was on the panel.
