External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! The Central Illinois Women's Bar Association Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: March 27, 2020

Each year, the Central Illinois Women’s Bar Association partners with the Sangamon County Bar Association to award the Judge Jeanne E. Scott Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship is a discretionary award given to a current or aspiring law student from the central Illinois area. The scholarship is open to students of all sexes and gender. The scholarship is available to college students, college graduates intending to go to law school, or current law students attending an accredited law school.

Additionally, applicants must have been a resident of one of the following central Illinois counties at the time he or she graduated high school: Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Greene, Jersey, Livingston, Logan, Macon, McLean, Menard, Montgomery, Morgan, Moultrie, Piatt, Pike, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Vermilion, or Woodford. The Danny Errico Academic Scholarship was created to give students who want to continue their education the opportunity to do so. Danny Errico created this scholarship opportunity to lessen the burden of one student's tuition cost. NEW! The Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: April 3, 2020

The Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship is awarded to a qualifying Illinois law student each spring. At least one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded this spring, but additional scholarships may be awarded. General requirements include being a first, second, or third year law student with the intention of a career in local, state or federal government. NEW! The Mike Eidson Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: May 1, 2020

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship, traditionally given in the amount of $5,000, is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized. NEW! The Charles E. Joseph Employment Law Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: May 1, 2020

Working Now and Then, a New York-based organization that offers a scholarship for law students. In order to encourage future employment lawyers, the Charles E. Joseph Employment Law Scholarship awards $1,000 annually to a law student who plans to work in plaintiff’s employment law. NEW! The National Tax Law Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: August 10, 2020

Brown, PC is now accepting applications for the firm's National Tax Law Scholarship, a $500 stipend which will be awarded to a second or third year full-time U.S. law student with a demonstrated interest in tax law. The award will be paid directly to the student, and can be used for any expenses related to legal education, including but not limited to tuition, room, board, books, bar review courses, or commuting expenses. The Samuel Buckwalter III Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: March 9, 2020 *deadline extented

The Samuel Buckwalter III Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Samuel Buckwalter III '83, by his wife Jane, his friends and classmates. The scholarship is awarded to first-year students, with preference given to students entering law as a career change. Mr. Buckwalter was a founding member of the firm Peters, Wieber & Buckwalter.

First-Year Chicago-Kent law students who meet the following criteria: (1) Full-time JD student (2) Graduated from college more than 5 years ago (3) entered law school as a career change are encouraged to email Gabriela Amador, Director of Admissions: gamador@kentlaw.iit.edu. Please enter Samuel Buckwalter Scholarship in the subject heading.

NEW! The Boone County Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: March 31, 2020

The Boone County Bar Association awards scholarship(s) up to $1,000.00 each school year to student(s) that are accepted or currently attending an American Bar Association accredited law school. The applicant must either be a current Boone County resident or a resident of Boone County at the time of his or her high school graduation.
