Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives
notices of scholarships that are offered through external
organizations. Information about the scholarship awards
that are currently available is listed below. Award
notices are listed in the order in which they were received.
You may also find information on other outside scholarship
awards on the Internet. The following sites are useful
for finding scholarship and financial aid information:
NEW! Grand Rapids Community Foundation Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 1, 2010
The Grand Rapids Community Foundation administers two scholarship programs funded by local law firms aimed at increasing diversity in all areas of the legal profession.
Miller Johnson West Michigan Diversity Scholarships for minority students are available to students of ethnic minority currently residing in Michigan (with preference given to West Michigan residents) pursuing a law degree at any accredited law school in the United States. One $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year.
Warner Norcross & Judd LLP Scholarships for minority students are awarded to students of racial and ethnic minority heritage pursuing a law degree. One $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year. The law school scholarship is not limited to schools in Michigan; however the applicant must be a current or former resident of Michigan if they are not currently attending a school in Michigan.

The DuPage County Bar Foundation Scholarship
Application Deadline: March 22 , 2010
The DuPage County Bar Foundation is accepting applications for its annual Hartman Stime scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a DuPage County resident who will begin his or her second, third or fourth year of law school in fall, 2010. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. Applications are available online at http://www.dcba.org/public/found.htm. The selection committee will interview applicants at their Wheaton office on April 10, 2010. The recipient will be recognized at the foundation's annual Law Day luncheon which will take place on April 30, venue to be announced. The applicant or his/her representative must attend the April 30 luncheon to accept the award. For more information, contact the foundation at 630.653.7779.
The Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 1, 2010
The Illinois Government Bar Association is offering a $750 scholarship to a deserving 1st, 2nd or 3rd year law student that is interested in government law. Applicants will be judged on education/experience, motivation/focus, academic reference/character, community member reference/character and aptitude. The Fredrikson and Byron Minority Scholarship
Application Deadline:March 31, 2010
The Fredrikson & Byron Foundation Minority Scholarship Program sponsors educational opportunities for currently enrolled, first-year law students of diverse backgrounds. The Foundation offers one award of $10,000.

The Howard Fox Memorial Scholarship

In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office. The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award of $3,000 is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event. It is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School. ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship
Application Deadline: March 1, 2010
The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend. Therefore law students applying to any and all-ABA accredited law schools may benefit from these scholarships. The application is available online at http://www.abanet.org/fje. Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2010.
Seventh World Conference on Nonsmokers Rights Writing Contest
Contest Deadline: May 1, 2010
The Seventh World Conference on Nonsmokers Rights will be held June 12-13 in Washington, DC where students can network with other attorneys involved in public health law, environmental law, and international law. For students interested in public interest law, health law, public policy, medicine and law, and administrative law, this writing contest is an opportunity to get involved in legal research, advocacy, and affect change in legislation. The writing contest is open to all law students and requires a 1000-word submission of a proposal for legal action to protect nonsmokers' rights. Prizes range from $1000 to $5000.
