4/5/99	May 15, 1999	Kane County Bar Foundation Scholarships  The Kane County Bar Foundation will award scholarships to qualified law students who reside, or whose parents reside, in Kane County, Illinois.  Two scholarships will be awarded for not less than $2,000 each.  In addition, the Foundation will award the Michael P. Wren Memorial Scholarship to a student who has entered law school after a previous professional career.  The Wren Scholarship will be a minimum amount of $1,500.  Applicants for Kane County Bar Foundation Scholarships must (1) be a permanent resident of Kane County, Illinois or have a parent who is a permanent resident of Kane County; and (2) be accepted and preparing to start their first, second or third/final year of law school.  Applications are evaluated on the basis of previous academic performance, financial need, and community/social involvement.  Students with post-graduate plans to practice in Kane County will be given preference.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/23/99	May 7, 1999	Serbian Bar Association of America Scholarship  The Serbian Bar Association of America will award scholarships to students of Serbian descent who are attending law school in the United States.  In the past, they have awarded three scholarships each year.  The scholarship recipients will be honored at the annual Serbian Bar Association Ball which will be held in mid June, 1999, at the Union League Club in Chicago.  Applicants must complete the scholarship application, submit an essay and a certified copy of their law school transcript.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/22/99	Deadline extended to May 1, 1999  Original deadline was February 28, 1999	ATLA Richard D. Hailey Law Student Scholarships  This is a new scholarship sponsored by ATLA’s Minority Caucus.  Up to six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in the fall of 1999.  These scholarships are open to all second- and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian American and Native American ATLA Law Student Members.  Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who best exhibit an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy; express a desire to represent victims; demonstrate a commitment to ATLA and dedication to its mission through involvement in an ATLA student chapter and Minority Caucus activities; and show a financial need for the scholarship. 3/8/99	Typically between March and July 1999  Must contact Rotary Foundation for more information	Rotary Foundation Scholarships  (1) Ambassadorial Scholarships  The primary purpose of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries.  Ambassadorial Scholarships for 2000-2001 will be awarded for study or training beginning after July 1, 2000 in another country where Rotary clubs are located.  Scholarships are for one academic year at a study institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation Trustees.  Awards will range between $11,000 and $23,000 depending upon actual costs at the assigned study institution.  Applicants must submit evidence of ability to read, write and speak the language(s) of their proposed study country and must pass a language proficiency examination.  (2) Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships  The Rotary Foundation is offering Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships for either three or six months of intensive language training and cultural immersion at a study institution assigned by The Rotary Foundation Trustees.  For 2000-2001, applications will be considered for candidates interested in studying Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish.  Applicants for the scholarship are expected to have completed at least one year of college-level course work or its equivalent in the language they plan to study.  This scholarship is not appropriate for the study of a language that the applicant already speaks fluently.  Individuals interested in either of these scholarships should contact their local Rotary Club for an application and to inquire about scholarship availability.  Additional information and applications are also available on the Rotary Foundation website at www.rotary.org.

2/22/99	May 1, 1999	Leesfield/ATLA Law Student Scholarship  Sponsored by Ira Leesfield and ATLA, this scholarship has been established to award $1,000 to a law student for attendance at ATLA’s Annual Convention to be held in San Francisco, CA, July 17-21.  This scholarship is available to first- and second-year ATLA Law Student Members. 2/22/99	June 1, 1999	1999 ATLA Auxiliary Scholarship  The ATLA Auxiliary Scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, is available to students who are entering their second or third year of law school or law students who have the equivalent of one year to complete their studies.  Applicants must be ATLA student members in the United States or law students who are children of ATLA members in the United States.  Scholarship applications should include a cover letter, resume, transcript, letter of recommendation from a law professor or dean of the law school, and a 500-word essay on "What can lawyers do to preserve the independence of the judiciary?"  The recipient of this scholarship must be present to receive the award at the ATLA Spouse Luncheon on July 20, 1999 during the ATLA Annual Convention in San Francisco, CA.  Please submit applications and address any questions to Sally Russomanno, 13201 SW 63rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33156, (305) 667-1777.  A flyer containing this information is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
2/15/99	June 8, 1999	Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship  The firm of Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O'Neal of Birmingham and Mobile, Alabama and the Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. will award a scholarship in memory of the firm's founding partners, Edward Harmon Cabaniss and Forney Johnston. This scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited law school in the United States and will be a second year student.  The scholarship will cover tuition and books for the second year of law school to a maximum of $5,000.  A second place scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the committee's discretion.  While academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the  scholarship, consideration will be given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest ethical standards.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/25/99	June 30, 1999	Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarships  The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others.  Realizing that education is the main tool for deepening an appreciation of culture and advancing a people, the Club supports educational activities and the personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships.  To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: must be a United States citizen; must have one parent of some Polish heritage; must be a Chicago area resident enrolled as a full-time student, second-year or beyond; must exhibit definite financial need; and must have acceptable grades.  Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship may obtain an application by enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope and writing to:  Therese Brzezinski, Education Committee Chairman- PWCC, P.O. 8/20/98	October 15, 1998	Just the Beginning Foundation  Scholarships are available for full- and part-time students currently enrolled in an Illinois law school who are in need of financial assistance.  Scholarship awards must be used during the 1998-99 academic year.  To be considered, applicants must submit a completed scholarship application, a resume, a law school transcript, two letters of recommendation, a letter of good standing, and a three page essay.  The scholarship application and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
11/12/98	October 15, 1998	NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarships  The NAPABA Law Foundation, an organization of over thirty local Asian Pacific American bar associations, will award scholarships this fall on a nationwide basis to law students who demonstrate a commitment to serve or contribute to the Asian Pacific American community as future leaders.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school at least half time, and must submit a completed and signed NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarship Application form and 500 word essay.  Applicants must also submit an official law school transcript, a resume and two letters of recommendation.  Applicants who wish to demonstrate financial need may also submit a copy of their financial aid application. 11/12/98	October 16, 1998	Hellenic Bar Association Scholarships  The Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois (HBA), an organization of Illinois attorneys of Hellenic descent, will award scholarships to second- and third-year law students of Hellenic descent based upon academic performance and demonstrable financial need.  This year, HBA will award at least three scholarships of $2,500 each.  Applicants must submit the HBA Scholarship Application, official law school transcripts and proof of financial need.  Applicants will be required to complete an interview during the week of October 26, 1998.  Scholarship recipients must attend the awards ceremony on November 7, 1998 to receive their award.  Applications for HBA Scholarships are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
9/4/98	Deadline extended to October 30, 1998	Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois  The Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois (HLSF) provides financial assistance to first-year Latino and Latina law students through its scholarship program.  The awarding of scholarships will be based on the recipient's application and a personal interview with the HLSF selection committee.  The criteria evaluated by the selection committee includes, but is not limited to the applicant's academic record, financial need, writing ability, personal recommendations and career goals.  A factor in the Committee's consideration is the applicant's connection to the State of Illinois.  The scholarship(s) to be awarded will be a minimum of $1,000.  The scholarship application and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
9/21/98	November 1, 1998	Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation  The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation will award three scholarships for the Spring semester, 1999.  Third year law students will be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship; second year students for a $1,500 scholarship; and first year students for a $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be residents of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, regardless of the law school attended. Interested candidates must submit the application, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and a one page statement.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
10/19/98	November 2, 1998	South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship  The South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee will award a $1,500 scholarship to a deserving law student of an accredited local law school.  Applicants must be a resident of the South Suburbs of Cook County and must have a present interest to practice law in the South Suburbs upon graduation.  Financial need will be considered by the Scholarship Committee and applicants must document their financial need when requested to do so by the Committee.  Each student interested in being considered for the Scholarship Award must submit a brief resume for review by the South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee.  The Committee may conduct interviews of applicants or, alternatively, may in its discretion, recommend a candidate to the Board of the South Suburban Bar Association based upon a review of the resumes submitted.  In order to receive the Scholarship Award, the student must attend the South Suburban Bar Association's Installation Dinner Dance in December 1998.  Additional information about this scholarship is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230. 12/7/98	January 29, 1999	Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Awards  The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) will award scholarships of $1,000 to Latino law students attending law school in the United States.  Applicants must be enrolled in a J.D. program;  LL.M. students are not eligible for these awards.  Recipients will be selected based on financial need and academic promise.  Scholarship recipients will be contacted by PRBA directly.  Applicants should complete the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) Scholarship Application available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.  (Please note that this is the same application used for the Father Joseph P. Fitzpatrick Scholarship listed above.)
12/7/98	February 26, 1999	Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati, William A. McClain Scholarship  The Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati (BLAC), in conjunction with the Cincinnati Bar Foundation, will award a scholarship (estimated at $1,000) to an African-American Cincinnatian, enrolled in an accredited law school, who has demonstrated leadership skills, a commitment to the Cincinnati community and has financial need.  All students are encouraged to apply regardless of their year in law school.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
11/30/98	March 1, 1999	Illinois Judicial Council Scholarships  The Illinois Judicial Council will award scholarships in the amount of $500 to minority law students.  To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be enrolled full-time and rank in the upper half of their law school class or, if the student is entering first year of law school, must have ranked in the upper half of their most recently completed undergraduate class.  All applicants must submit an official copy of their transcript, a current family financial statement, the Illinois Judicial Council Scholarship Application, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and be available to meet with the Illinois Judicial Council scholarship committee.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
10/19/98	March 1, 1999	Jewish Vocational Service, Gertrude and Harry G. Fins Scholarship Fund  The Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Chicago will award scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 from the Gertrude and Harry G. Fins Scholarship Fund for the 1999-2000 academic year.  Eligible applicants must be Jewish, be enrolled as a full-time (day) student, be domiciled in the Chicago metropolitan community, establish financial need, and demonstrate career promise.  Students who meet these criteria should contact the Scholarship Secretary, Jewish Vocational Service, between December 1, 1998, and February 15, 1999, at (312) 357-4500 to request an application.  Informational brochures are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/1/99	March 12, 1999	Kern County Women Lawyers Public Benefit Fund Scholarship  The Kern County Women Lawyers Association (KCWLA) of Bakersfield, California provides scholarships to deserving law school students each year in either April or May.  The KCWLA is an organization that supports and promotes women attorneys as well as issues of gender, diversity and equality.  Eligible applicant law students must have ties to Kern County, California, have financial need and/or hardship, and have good scholarship.  The Association is also interested in candidates who have an interest in the most pressing issues of the day.  The scholarship award may be anywhere from $250 to $3,000. Applications for the KCWLA Scholarship are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/8/99	March 26, 1999	DuPage County Bar Association, Hartman E. Stime Scholarship  The DuPage County Bar Association will award a $2,000 scholarship to a DuPage County resident who will commence their second year of law school in Fall 1999.  The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. Chicago-Kent is able to nominate one student for consideration by the DuPage County Bar Association Scholarship Committee.  All interested students must submit a letter of application describing their qualifications for the scholarship to Assistant Dean Michael S. Burns, Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
12/7/98	March 30, 1999	Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, Father Joseph P. Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund  The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) will award five $1,000 scholarships from the Father Joseph P. Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund's purpose is to support PRLDEF in its efforts to ensure that talented Latino law students have the resources needed to pursue a career in public interest law.  All Latino students attending law school in the United States are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Applicants must be enrolled in a J.D. program;  LL.M. students are not eligible for these awards.  Applicants must demonstrate academic promise, involvement in the Latino community and financial need.  Scholarship recipients will be announced in June 1999.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/25/99	March 31, 1999	AAA-CPA Foundation Scholarships  The American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants Foundation will award ten scholarships in 1999 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000.  The scholarships are open to law students who will be entering their third year of law school in Fall 1999 who have obtained a CPA certificate.  Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies.  Recipients will be selected by the Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship Committee no later than June 30, 1999.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
2/8/99	April 1, 1999	DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarships  The DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will award a scholarship to a student of Italian extraction who has completed at least one semester of law school.  In general, one award of $1,000 is made, but occasionally more than one applicant is chosen.  The award will be made on or about May 7, 1999.  Applicants must submit the scholarship application, a personal statement, letter of recommendation from a law school faculty member and a copy of their previous year's Federal income taxes.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
12/8/98	April 1, 1999	Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation Scholarships  The Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois, will award scholarships for the 1999-2000 academic year to students interested in careers in the real estate industry.  The selection of scholarship recipients will be determined by the Foundation, taking into consideration the applicant's indication of interest in pursuing a career in real estate or an allied field (i.e., construction, land use planning, mortgage banking, property management, real estate appraising, real estate assessing, real estate brokerage, real estate development, real estate investment counseling, real estate law, real estate syndication); record of scholastic achievement, including academic grade point average; economic need or situation; and references and recommendations by instructors, employers, REALTORS® and other prominent individuals. Applicants must submit the scholarship application form, a letter of application, a record of military service (if any), a description of the proposed program of study, a typed statement from a real estate instructor recommending the applicant, an official law school transcript and two letters of recommendation. 2/8/99	April 7, 1999	Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation Scholarships  The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation will award one scholarship for the Spring 1999 semester.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in law school and must be residents of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.  Applicants must submit the scholarship application, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement and law school transcripts.  Scholarship applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/23/99	April 9, 1999	Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago Scholarships  The Bohemian Lawyer's Association of Chicago will award scholarships this spring.  All persons of Czech, Moravian, Ruthenian, Silesian or Slovak ancestry who are enrolled in an accredited law school in the greater Chicagoland area are eligible to apply.  Two scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded.  Applicants must submit the scholarship application, an essay and a certified copy of their law school transcript.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/8/99	April 12, 1999	Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. Scholarships  The Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago (BWLA) is offering scholarships to second- and third-year black women law students in the extended Chicago area for 1999.  The BWLA is a community service organization which wants to promote and reward a similar interest in community service among future black women lawyers attending law school in the extended Chicago area. The following criteria will be considered in awarding scholarships: academic record (which may include, but is not limited to, grades, journal and/or moot court participation, experience as a teaching fellow/research assistant), extracurricular activities (with particular emphasis given to service-oriented extracurricular activities), letters of recommendation, financial need, the applicant's essay, and an interview with the BWLA Scholarship Committee.  Two scholarships will be awarded.  Historically the committee has awarded one scholarship for $2,500 and a second scholarship for $1,500.  BWLA intends for the scholarships to help defray the costs of tuition for promising future black women lawyers.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
4/12/99	April 15, 1999	Great Lakes Commission, Carol A. Ratza Memorial Scholarship  The Great Lakes Commission is accepting applications for the 1999 Carol A. Ratza Memorial Scholarship which recognizes outstanding achievement and vision in electronic communications technology and its  environmental or economic application in the Great Lakes region. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student enrolled full-time at a college or university in the Great Lakes states or Canadian provinces.  The eligible student must have a demonstrated interest in the environmental or economic applications of electronic communications technology, exhibit academic excellence and have a sincere appreciation for the Great Lakes and their protection.  Applicants must submit (1) a 1,000 word essay on a specific Great Lakes issue, demonstrating an example of how sustainable development in the Great Lakes region can be achieved through the aid of communications technologies, or an original web page (designed and populated by the student) that will enhance Great Lakes Commission objectives and further communication between decision-makers in the Great Lakes region; (2) a resume; (3) a letter of intent explaining the applicant's career goals and how the Great Lakes community will benefit; (4) transcripts; and (5) two letters of recommendation.  Applications may be downloaded from http://www.glc.org/announce/98/scholar99.html.
