Chicago-Kent Scholarship Opportunities
The following Chicago-Kent scholarships are currently available through
the Office of Admissions. To apply for an award, you must submit
a letter of application and any additional materials listed in the scholarship
description to the Office of Admissions no later than Friday, September
10, 1999.
You must submit a separate letter of application for each scholarship
for which you are applying. Your letter should describe the reasons
that you feel you qualify for the scholarship, a description of your financial
situation (if applicable) as well as any other factors that you wish the
Scholarship Committee to consider. Letters of application should
be addressed to Michael S. Burns, Assistant Dean for Admissions.
Asian Law Student Scholarship
The Asian Law Student Scholarship was established
by alumnae/i and friends of Chicago-Kent, including the Chinese Bar Association,
to provide financial assistance to students of Asian descent. Students,
alumnae/i and friends celebrated the inception of this scholarship fund
at a Chinese New Year reception in February 1997. In awarding the
scholarship, the scholarship committee will give preference to students
planning to serve the Asian community. Interested applicants should
submit an essay describing their commitment to serving the needs of the
Asian American community and a letter of recommendation by persons who
can be contacted by the Chinese American Bar Association. Applicants
must be in good standing and must demonstrate commitment to serving the
needs of the Asian American community, a commitment to and interest in
pro bono and/or public interest legal work, financial need and leadership
potential. The recipient will be selected by the Chinese American
Bar Association. The scholarship amount is approximately $1,000.
Class of 1993 Scholarship in Memory of Ken
Rosen
The Class of 1993 established this scholarship
in celebration of their five-year reunion. This fund is dedicated to the
memory of Ken Rosen, a student who spent one year of law school at Chicago-Kent.
Mr. Rosen passed away while this class was still in school. This
scholarship will assist a first-year student who has a unique, well-balanced
background. The scholarship amount is $600.
Daniel C. Cohn Memorial Scholarship
The Daniel C. Cohn Memorial Scholarship Fund
was established in memory of Daniel Cohn (1958-1985) by his classmates.
This fund provides assistance to a disabled student or to a student who
works with disabled individuals. The scholarship amount is $450.
Marvin Gates Memorial Fund
The Marvin Gates Memorial Fund provides funds
for books and supplies for a financially needy third-year student.
Preference is given to students of Jewish faith and to students with demonstrated
financial need and a commitment to social justice. The fund was established
by Paula Gates, ‘96, in honor of her father, Marvin Gates. Mr. Gates
was a professional engineer who valued education and who understood the
needs of his community and those of the third world countries where he
spent time during his career. The scholarship amount is $400.
Law School Association Board of Directors Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by the
Law School Association Board of Directors in 1998 and will be awarded to
law students demonstrating academic merit and financial need. The scholarship
amount is approximately $1,000.
Jeffrey & Susan Rubenstein Scholarship
Fund
The Rubenstein Scholarship Fund was established
by Jeffrey and Susan Rubenstein, two friends of the law school. Mr.
Rubenstein is an adjunct professor at Chicago-Kent and a partner at the
firm of Much Shelist Freed Denenberg & Ament. The recipient of
this fund is selected based on financial need with preference given to
students who are financing their law school education by working in non-professional
positions or part-time jobs in the hospitality or service industries.
The scholarship amount is $1,200.

NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarships
The NAPABA Law Foundation, an organization of over thirty local Asian
Pacific American bar associations, will award scholarships this fall on
a nationwide basis to law students who demonstrate a commitment to serve
or contribute to the Asian Pacific American community as future leaders.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school
at least half time, and must submit a completed and signed NAPABA Law Foundation
Scholarship Application form. Applicants must also submit an official
law school transcript (or for first-year students, a statement from their
law school certifying that they are law degree candidates enrolled at least
half-time), a resume and two letters of recommendation. Applicants
who wish to demonstrate financial need may also submit a copy of their
financial aid application. NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarship applications

Corus Bank $2,000 Scholarship Giveaway
Corus Bank will be giving away $2,000 in scholarships from June through
September for the 1999-2000 academic year. There are no grade point or
essay requirements for the scholarships. By simply completing the on-line
submission form and sending it, your name will be entered into a drawing
for a $250 scholarship. Drawings will be held on the 15th and the lst day
of each month from June through September. Winners will be announced on
the 16th and the 1st day of each month on the Corus Bank Web site. You
do not have to be a Corus Bank borrower to enter the Scholarship Giveaway.

Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarships
The Justinian Society of Lawyers awards scholarships annually to Italian-American
law students who demonstrate financial need, Italian ancestry and academic
achievement. In 1998, over $40,000 was awarded to a total of twenty-five
law students. Students interested in applying for scholarships must complete
the scholarship application, and submit a law school transcript, financial
information and 500-word essay. Applications are available on the Justinian
