Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed by the date on which they were posted.

June 8, 2000 Cook County Bar Association Law Student Scholarships
The Cook County Bar Association (CCBA) is one of the nation's oldest and largest African-American bar associations. For its 1999-2000 bar year, the CCBA will make two $1,500 scholarships available to law students who will be entering either their second or third years of law school. The following criteria will be considered: 1) commitment to issues that affect the African-American community; 2) participation and involvement in extracurricular activities other than employment; 3) demonstrated leadership ability; 4) commitment to Chicago and the surrounding area; and 5) academic achievement. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

June 2, 2000 ATLA Minority Law Student Convention Scholarship
This scholarship program was established to provide an opportunity for up to ten Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) law student members to interact with the nation's leading trial lawyers, law professors and judges for five days of information-packed workshops and general sessions on all aspects of trial law at the ATLA Annual Convention. The scholarships are open to all African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American and Bi-racial ATLA Law Student Members. The scholarships will subsidize registration fees only for the 2000 Annual Convention in Chicago, July 29-August 2; no travel expenses will be covered. Scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who best meet the following criteria:  1) a required 500-word essay on the benefits received from attending the convention; 2) a desire to represent victims; 3) a commitment to ATLA and dedication to its mission; 4) one letter from a faculty adviser, trial advocacy professor or dean. 2/24/2000 June 9, 2000 Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship
The firm of Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O'Neal of Birmingham and Mobile, Alabama and the Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. will award a scholarship in memory of the firm's founding partners, Edward Harmon Cabaniss and Forney Johnston. This scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited law school in the United States and will be a second year student.  The scholarship will cover tuition and books for the second year of law school to a maximum of $5,000.  A second place scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the committee's discretion.  While academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship, consideration will be given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest ethical standards.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

Rotary Foundation Scholarships
(1) Ambassadorial Scholarships
The primary purpose of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries.  Ambassadorial Scholarships for 2001-2002 will be awarded for study or training beginning after July 1, 2001 in another country where Rotary clubs are located.  Scholarships are for one academic year at a study institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation Trustees. Applicants must submit evidence of the ability to read, write and speak the language(s) of their proposed study country and must pass a language proficiency examination. 

(2) Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships
The Rotary Foundation offers Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships for either three or six months of intensive language training and cultural immersion at a study institution assigned by The Rotary Foundation Trustees.  Applicants for the scholarship are expected to have completed at least one year of college-level course work or its equivalent in the language they plan to study.  This scholarship is not appropriate for the study of a language that the applicant already speaks fluently. 

Individuals interested in either of these scholarships should contact their local Rotary Club for an application and to inquire about scholarship availability. Since scholarship availability is determined by Rotarian contributions at the local level, not all Rotary clubs will offer scholarships, nor will all types of scholarships necessarily be available in a given year.  Application deadlines are set by individual clubs. 1/18/2000 June 30, 2000 Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarships
The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others.  Realizing that education is the main tool for deepening an appreciation of culture and advancing a people, the Club supports educational activities and the personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships.  To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: must be a United States citizen; must have one parent of some Polish heritage; must be a Chicago area resident enrolled as a full-time student, second-year or beyond; must exhibit definite financial need; and must have acceptable grades.  Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship may obtain an application by enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope and writing to:  Therese Brzezinski, Education Committee Chairman- PWCC, P.O. 5/12/99  September 6, 1999 Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarships
The Justinian Society of Lawyers awards scholarships annually to Italian-American law students who demonstrate financial need, Italian ancestry and academic achievement. In 1998, over $40,000 was awarded to a total of twenty-five law students. Students interested in applying for scholarships must complete the scholarship application, and submit a law school transcript, financial information and 500-word essay. Applications are available on the Justinian Society Web site at www.justinians.org, or in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
8/12/99 September 23, 1999 NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarships
The NAPABA Law Foundation, an organization of over thirty local Asian Pacific American bar associations, will award scholarships this fall on a nationwide basis to law students who demonstrate a commitment to serve or contribute to the Asian Pacific American community as future leaders.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school at least half time, and must submit a completed and signed NAPABA Law Foundation Scholarship Application form.  Applicants must also submit an official law school transcript (or for first-year students, a statement from their law school certifying that they are law degree candidates enrolled at least half-time), a resume and two letters of recommendation.  Applicants who wish to demonstrate financial need may also submit a copy of their financial aid application. 9/20/99 September 27, 1999 Hellenic Bar Association Scholarships
The Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois (HBA), an organization of Illinois attorneys of Hellenic descent, will award scholarships to second- and third-year law students of Hellenic descent based upon academic performance and demonstrable financial need.  This year, HBA will award at least three scholarships of $2,500 each.  Applicants must submit the HBA Scholarship Application, official law school transcripts and proof of financial need.  Applicant interviews will be held on the evening of September 29, 1999.  Scholarship recipients must attend the awards ceremony on October 10, 1999 to receive their award.  Applications for HBA Scholarships are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
6/18/99 September 30, 1999 Corus Bank $2,000 Scholarship Giveaway
Corus Bank will be giving away $2,000 in scholarships from June through September for the 1999-2000 academic year. There are no grade point or essay requirements for the scholarships. By simply completing the on-line submission form and sending it, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $250 scholarship. Drawings will be held on the 15th and the lst day of each month from June through September. Winners will be announced on the 16th and the 1st day of each month on the Corus Bank Web site. You do not have to be a Corus Bank borrower to enter the Scholarship Giveaway. You may enter the Corus Bank Scholarship Giveaway at http://www.corusbank.com and click on "Student Loans" for more information.
9/20/99 November 1, 1999 Just the Beginning Foundation
Scholarships are available for full- and part-time students currently enrolled in an Illinois law school who are in need of financial assistance.  Scholarship awards must be used during the 1999-2000 academic year.  To be considered, applicants must submit a completed scholarship application, a resume, a law school transcript, two letters of recommendation, a letter of good standing, and an essay.  The scholarship application and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
10/21/99 November 29, 1999 South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship
The South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee will award a $1,500 scholarship to a deserving law student of an accredited local law school.  Applicants must be a resident of the South Suburbs of Cook County and must have a present interest to practice law in the South Suburbs upon graduation.  Financial need will be considered by the Scholarship Committee and applicants must document their financial need when requested to do so by the Committee.  Each student interested in being considered for the Scholarship Award must submit a brief resume for review by the South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee.  The Committee may conduct interviews of applicants or, alternatively, may in its discretion, recommend a candidate to the Board of the South Suburban Bar Association based upon a review of the resumes submitted.  In order to receive the Scholarship Award, the student must attend the South Suburban Bar Association's Installation Dinner Dance in January 2000.  Additional information about this scholarship is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230. 10/21/99 January 28, 2000 Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation
The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation will award three scholarships for the Spring semester, 2000.  Third year law students will be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship; second year students for a $1,500 scholarship; and first year students for a $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be residents of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, regardless of the law school attended. Interested candidates must submit the application, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and a one page statement.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/21/2000 March 1, 2000 Kern County Women Lawyers Public Benefit Fund Scholarship
The Kern County Women Lawyers Association (KCWLA) of Bakersfield, California provides scholarships to deserving law school students each year in either April or May.  The KCWLA is an organization that supports and promotes women attorneys as well as issues of gender, diversity and equality.  Eligible applicant law students must have ties to Kern County, California, have financial need and/or hardship, and have good scholarship.  The Association is also interested in candidates who have an interest in the most pressing issues of the day.  The scholarship award may be anywhere from $250 to $3,000. Applications for the KCWLA Scholarship are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
11/22/99 March 1, 2000 Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Academic Scholarship Program
Educational scholarship funds from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago are available for law students for the 2000-2001 academic year.  Scholarships are available for Jewish students legally domiciled in the greater Chicago metropolitan area who are identified as having promise for significant contributions in their chosen careers, and who are in need of financial assistance for full-time academic programs.  The largest fund is the Marcus and Theresa Levie Educational Fund.  Applicants for the Levie Educational Fund must be legally domiciled in Cook County.  Other awards are available to residents of the greater Chicago metropolitan area and the Yonover awards are open to residents of Northwest Indiana.  Additional information is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.  Applications are available between December 1, 1999 and February 15, 2000 and can be obtained by contacting:  Scholarship Secretary, Jewish Vocational Service, 1 South Franklin, Chicago, IL 60606; Phone: (312) 357-4521; Fax: (312) 855-3282; email: jvsscholarship@juf.org.  Additional information is also available at www.fastweb.com.
1/28/2000 March 10, 2000 Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati, William A. McClain Scholarship
The Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati (BLAC), in conjunction with the Cincinnati Bar Foundation, will award a scholarship (estimated at $1,000) to an African-American Cincinnatian, enrolled in an accredited law school, who has demonstrated leadership skills, a commitment to the Cincinnati community and has financial need.  All students are encouraged to apply regardless of their year in law school.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
2/24/2000 March 24, 2000 DuPage County Bar Association, Hartman E. Stime Scholarship
The DuPage County Bar Association will award a $2,000 scholarship to a DuPage County resident who will commence their second year of law school in Fall 2000.  The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. Chicago-Kent is able to nominate one student for consideration by the DuPage County Bar Association Scholarship Committee.  All interested students must submit a letter of application describing their qualifications to Nicole Speck, Director of Admissions, Suite 230. The letter of application should describe the reasons that you qualify for the scholarship, including your academic achievement and the ways in which the scholarship will help to alleviate your financial need.
2/24/2000 March 30, 2000 ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship
The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund was created as part of an ABA presidential initiative to encourage and support diversity in the legal profession. The Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is intended to provide resources to increase the flow of racial and ethnic minority students into the legal profession. For the 2000-2001 academic year, the ABA will award a minimum of twenty $5,000 scholarships, primarily to entering freshmen. Assuming the recipient achieves satisfactory performance in law school, an award may be renewed for two additional years. Most of the scholarship awards will be made to entering law students. However, students who will be starting their second or third year in law school may also apply. Students interested in applying for the scholarship must submit the scholarship application, a personal statement and at least one letter of recommendation. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/31/2000 March 31, 2000 Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships
The Attorney-CPA Foundation will award ten scholarships in 2000 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000.  The scholarships are open to law students who will be entering their third year of law school in Fall 2000 who have obtained a CPA certificate.  Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies.  Recipients will be selected by the Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship Committee no later than June 30, 2000.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230, or on the Foundation's web site at http://www.attorney-cpa.com/foundation.html
1/21/2000 April 1, 2000 Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation Scholarships
The Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois, will award scholarships for the 2000-2001 academic year to students interested in careers in the real estate industry.  The selection of scholarship recipients will be determined by the Foundation, taking into consideration the applicant's indication of interest in pursuing a career in real estate or an allied field (i.e., construction, land use planning, mortgage banking, property management, real estate appraising, real estate assessing, real estate brokerage, real estate development, real estate investment counseling, real estate law, real estate syndication); record of scholastic achievement, including academic grade point average; economic need or situation; and references and recommendations by instructors, employers, REALTORS® and other prominent individuals. Applicants must submit the scholarship application form, a letter of application, a record of military service (if any), a description of the proposed program of study, a typed statement from a real estate instructor recommending the applicant, an official law school transcript and two letters of recommendation. 2/24/2000 April 1, 2000 DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarships
The DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will award a scholarship to a student of Italian extraction who has completed at least one semester of law school.  In general, one award of $1,000 is made, but occasionally more than one applicant is chosen.  The award will be made on or about May 7, 2000.  Applicants must submit the scholarship application, a personal statement, letter of recommendation from a law school faculty member and a copy of their previous year's Federal income taxes.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/29/2000 April 14, 2000 Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. Scholarships
The Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago (BWLA) is offering scholarships to second- and third-year black women law students in the extended Chicago area for 2000.  The BWLA is a community service organization which wants to promote and reward a similar interest in community service among future black women lawyers attending law school in the extended Chicago area. The following criteria will be considered in awarding scholarships: academic record (which may include, but is not limited to, grades, journal and/or moot court participation, experience as a teaching fellow/research assistant), extracurricular activities (with particular emphasis given to service-oriented extracurricular activities), letters of recommendation, financial need, the applicant's essay, and an interview with the BWLA Scholarship Committee.  Two scholarships will be awarded.  Historically the committee has awarded one scholarship for $2,500 and a second scholarship for $1,500.  BWLA intends for the scholarships to help defray the costs of tuition for promising future black women lawyers.  Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
3/10/2000 April 30, 2000 Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago Scholarships
The Bohemian Lawyer's Association of Chicago will award scholarships this spring to area students. All persons of Czech, Moravian, Ruthenian, Silesian or Slovak ancestry who are enrolled in an accredited law school in the greater Chicagoland area are eligible to apply.  Two scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded.  Applicants must submit the scholarship application, an essay and a certified copy of their law school transcript.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/18/2000 May 1, 2000 ATLA - Alia Herrera Memorial Auxiliary Scholarship
Annually, the Auxiliary of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) presents a scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to a student attending law school.  The Auxiliary will award the scholarship to a student who has shown aptitude and interest in promoting the rights of the individual.  The recipient should show good academic performance and appreciate financial assistance.  The recipient must be able to attend the ATLA Auxiliary Spouse Luncheon on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the ATLA Annual Convention in Chicago to accept the award.  Eligible applicants are law students who attend law schools in the Chicago area; law students who are student members of the Law Student Section of ATLA; or law students who are children of ATLA members.  Additional information is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
1/10/2000 May 19, 2000 Public Employees Roundtable Scholarships
The Public Employees Roundtable (PER) is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of professional associations representing more than one million Federal, state and local government employees and retirees.  The PER Scholarship Program awards money to bright and talented college students considering careers in government.  Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate degree program or be enrolled in a full- or part-time graduate or post-graduate program.  All applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average in their current degree program of a 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.  Preference will be given to applicants with previous public service, volunteer or community service experience.  For more information about PER's Scholarship Program, please contact Ms. Irma Salley by phone at (202) 927-4923 or by e-mail at isalley@theroundtable.org, or visit the PER web site at http://www.theroundtable.org.
