Important Information for 2001-2002 Chicago-Kent Scholarship Recipients

If you have been awarded a Chicago-Kent scholarship for the 2001-2002 academic year, please refer to the Scholarship Policies from the current Student Handbook for important information concerning your award.  Please direct any questions about your scholarship to the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! DuPage County Bar Foundation, Hartman E. Stime Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 1, 2002

The DuPage County Bar Association will award a $2,000 scholarship to a DuPage County resident who will commence their second year of law school in Fall 2002. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230. The scholarship selection committee will interview applicants at their Wheaton office on April 20, 2002. The recipient will be recognized at the annual Law Day Luncheon on May 1, 2002.


NEW! American Association of University Women, Return to Learning Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 5, 2002

The Lombard Area Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is offering "Return to Learning" Scholarships to be used for the 2002-2003 academic year. These scholarships are available to qualified women residents of the Lombard, Villa Park, Addison, Oakbrook Terrace or Glendale Heights postal districts. In addition, scholarship applicants must be continuing their education after a significant interruption, and must demonstrate strong academics and financial need. NEW! DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 30, 2002

The DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will award a scholarship to a student of Italian extraction who has completed at least one semester of law school in Illinois. In general, one award of $1,000 is made, but occasionally more than one applicant is chosen. The award will be made on or about May 11, 2002. Applicants must submit the scholarship application, a personal statement, letter of recommendation from a law school faculty member and a copy of their previous year's Federal income taxes.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


Kankakee County Society of Women in Law Book Scholarship
Application Deadline: February 28, 2002

The Society of Women in Law (SWIL) Scholarship Committee will annually award scholarships to deserving women law students of an accredited Illinois law school. This year, two $500 scholarships are available to help defray the cost of books. To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Illinois and any county other than Cook. The Scholarship Committee will consider financial need, and applicants must document their financial need when requested to do so. Additional information is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois First Year Law Student Scholarships
Application Deadline: February 22, 2002

The Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois (HLSF) provides financial assistance to first-year Latino and Latina law students through its scholarship program. The awarding of scholarships will be based on the recipient's application and a personal interview with the HLSF selection committee. The criteria evaluated by the selection committee includes, but is not limited to, the applicant's academic record, financial need, writing ability, personal recommendations and career goals. A factor in the Committee's consideration is the applicant's connection to the State of Illinois. Scholarship applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 30, 2002

The Attorney-CPA Foundation will award ten scholarships in 2002 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000.The scholarships are open to law students who will be entering their third year of law school in Fall 2002 who have obtained a CPA certificate. Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies.  Recipients will be selected by the Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship Committee.  Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230, or on the Foundation's web site at http://www.attorney-cpa.com/foundation.html or by calling the Attorney-CPA Foundation at 800-CPA-ATTY.


USA Funds "Access to Education" Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 15, 2002

USA Funds, the nation's leading student-loan guarantor, will award renewable $1,500 scholarships to full-time graduate students with financial need. Up to 50 percent of the scholarships will be targeted to students who, in addition to demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic-minority group or are physically disabled. USA Funds will renew these scholarships until students complete their degrees or until the total amount awarded to each student reaches $6,000, whichever comes first, as long as the student remains continuously enrolled and maintains a 2.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarship
Application Deadline: June 25, 2002

The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others. Realizing that education is the main tool for deepening an appreciation of culture and advancing a people, the Club supports educational activities and the personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must (1) be a United States citizen; (2) have at least one parent of Polish heritage; (3) be a Chicago area resident enrolled as a full-time student in their second year or beyond; (4) exhibit definite financial need; and (5) have acceptable grades. Scholarship applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230, or by enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope and writing to: Polish Women's Civic Club, Attn: Therese Brzezinski, Education Committee Chairman, P.O. Box 31967, Chicago, Illinois 60631-0967.


National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program
Application Deadline: March 31, 2002

The National Federation of the Blind will award thirty scholarships to high-achieving legally blind students. Awards range from $3,000 to $10,000 and recipients will be notified in May. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, service to the community and financial need. Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
