Important Information for 2002-03 Chicago-Kent Scholarship Recipients

If you have been awarded a Chicago-Kent scholarship for the 2002-2003 academic year, please refer to the Scholarship Policies from the current Student Handbook for important information concerning your award.  Please direct any questions about your scholarship to the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! DuPage Association of Women Lawyers Foundation, Judge Helen C. Kinney Scholarship
Application Deadline: October 30, 2002

To honor the memory, vision and leadership of Judge Helen C. Kinney, the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers has established a not-for-profit foundation to award the Judge Helen C. Kinney Scholarship. All second and third-year women law students who are present or past residents of DuPage County and who are enrolled in an accredited law school in Illinois are eligible for this scholarship. The Foundation anticipates awarding two $1,000 scholarships to deserving women law students. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


NEW! Hellenic Bar Association Scholarships
Application Deadline: October 22, 2002

The Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois (HBA), an organization of Illinois attorneys of Hellenic descent, will award scholarships to second- and third-year law students of Hellenic descent based upon academic performance and demonstrable financial need.  Applications for HBA Scholarships are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


NEW! Illinois Bar Foundation Scholarships
Application Deadline: October 18, 2002 (Deadline Extended)

The Illinois Bar Foundation will award one scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to a Chicago-Kent student this year. The Board is seeking to award the scholarship to a student who has demonstrated an accomplished overall academic record, involvement in diverse curricular, extracurricular and community activities including the Illinois State Bar Association, and has financial need. All applicants must be members of the ISBA or have recently applied for membership. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


NEW! Michael J. Baker Scholarship Fund of the Northeast Johnson County NAACP
Application Deadline: November 30, 2002

The Michael J. Baker Scholarship Fund will award a $1,000 scholarship each February to an African-American post-secondary student who can demonstrate need and academic promise. The recipient will be honored at the NAACP's Martin Luther King Day Program in February. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


NEW! Kankakee County Society of Women in Law Book Scholarship
Application Deadline: October 15, 2002

The Society of Women in Law (SWIL) Scholarship Committee will annually award scholarships to deserving women law students of an accredited Illinois law school. This year, two $500 scholarships are available to help defray the cost of books. To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Illinois and any county other than Cook. The Scholarship Committee will consider financial need, and applicants must document their financial need when requested to do so. Additional information is available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.


Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Award
Application Deadline: January 31, 2003

The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) provides scholarships of $2,000 to Latino students attending law school in the U.S. PRBA selects recipients based on financial need and academic promise. All applicants must be a first or second year student (third year evening students are also eligible) in a J.D. degree program at an ABA approved law school. Students working toward their LL.M. are not eligible for this award. Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, 2nd Floor.


Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education Fund - Father Joseph P. Fitzpatrick Scholarship
Application Deadline: February 28, 2003

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) was founded in 1972 to struggle for social change and secure justice and equality for Latinos. In 1995, PRLDEF established the Father Joseph P. Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund to support PRLDEF in its efforts to ensure that talented Latino law students have the resources needed to pursue a career in public interest law. The scholarship fund provides four awards of $1,500 to Latino students who demonstrate academic promise, involvement in the Latino community and financial need. Latino students attending law school in the U.S. are eligible to apply. All applicants must be a first or second year student (third year evening students are also eligible) in a J.D. degree program at an ABA approved law school. Students working toward their LL.M. are not eligible for this award. Applicants must demonstrate financial need as well as a commitment to the Latino community. Applications and additional information are available in the Office of Admissions, 2nd Floor.


South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship
Application Deadline: November 12, 2002

The South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee will award a $1,500 scholarship to a deserving law student of an accredited local law school.  Applicants must be a resident of the South Suburbs of Cook County and must have a present interest to practice law in the South Suburbs upon graduation. Financial need will be considered by the Scholarship Committee and applicants must document their financial need when requested to do so by the Scholarship Committee. Students interested in being considered for the scholarship award must submit a brief resume for review by the South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee. The Committee may conduct interviews of applicants or, alternatively, may in its discretion, recommend a candidate to the Board of the South Suburban Bar Association based upon a review of the resumes submitted.  In order to receive the Scholarship Award, the student must attend the South Suburban Bar Association's Installation Dinner Dance in December 2002.  Additional information about this scholarship is available in the Office of Admissions, 2nd Floor.
