External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW DEADLINE! Minority Corporate Counsel Association

Application Deadline: June 30, 2006

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association is pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students nationwide who have been accepted into an accredited law school. The program is open to all students entering law school in fall 2006. MCCA will award 10 fellowships at $10,000 per year for each of the three years in law school. The total commitment per student fellow will be $30,000. In addition, approximately, 7-8 students will receive a one-time scholarship gift of $10,000 in support of their law school education. The deadline for receipt of completed applications has been extended to June 30, 2006. The Attorney-CPA Foundation 2005-06 Essay Contest

Application Deadline: June 30, 2006

The Attorney-CPA Foundation invites applicants to submit essays in their 2005-06 essay contest. There is a specific essay topic required. The approximate required length of the essay is 30 pages, typed, double-spaced. The grand prize is $2,500; runner-up $1,500; and third and fourth are $500. Essays must be received by June 30, 2006. The Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships

Application Deadline: April 30, 2006

The Attorney-CPA Foundation is pleased to announce the annual Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships. The Foundation will award ten scholarships in 2006 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000 to ten students who will be graduating from law school in 2007. The scholarships are open to law students who will be entering their third year of law school who have obtained a CPA certificate. Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies. DRI Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: August 1, 2006

DRI - The Voice of the Defense Bar is pleased to announce this year's Law Student Diversity Scholarship program, which is open to law students of color and all female law students regardless of heritage or color who are currently enrolled in their second year of law school at the time of their application for this scholarship. The program will provide financial assistance to two (2) worthy law students in the amount of $10,000 each to applicants who best meet the following criteria: Completion of an application and essay; demonstrated academic excellence; service to the profession; service to the community; service to the cause of diversity. Winners will be announced September of 2006 and invited to attend the Awards Luncheon on October 12 at the 2006 DRI Annual Meeting in San Fransisco. The Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA) Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Scholarship

Application deadline: April 28, 2006

The Federal Circuit Bar Association, through its Charitable and Educational Fund, offers economic assistance to law students having a potential interest in legal issues that may be appealed to the Federal Circuit. To fulfill their mission the association created a scholarship in memory of Giles Sutherland Rich, former Circuit Judge on the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. An award of $10,000, in memory of Judge Rich, will be given by the Federal Circuit Bar Association to a law student showing financial need and demonstrated academic promise. Selection for the award will be based primarily on a written submission of no more than one page setting out the applicant's financial need, any interests in particular areas of the law, and any qualifications for the award considered relevant by the applicant. The submission should also include the applicant's law school transcript, and a one page curriculum vitae. The materials should be sent to Stephen L. The 2006 Take 5 Scholarship Program

Keybank is pleased to present the 2006 Take 5 Scholarship Program. This scholarship program will award one $5,000 scholarship each month through June. Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. - Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship Application Deadline: June 2, 2006

The Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited law school in the United States and will be a second year student. The scholarship will cover tuition and books for the second year of law school to a maximum of $5,000. A second place scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the committee's discretion. While academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship; consideration will be given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest ethical standards. The Chicago Lighthouse for People who are Blind or Visually Impaired, The Cara Dunne Yates Scholarship Application Deadline: May 1, 2006

The Chicago Lighthouse, through The Panitch Scholarship Program, awards scholarships in eight categories, including students pursuing a law degree. The Cara Dunne Yates Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a graduate or advanced degree with special consideration given to students seeking a law degree. Interested applicants should write a one-page essay about their background and educational/career goals and how this scholarship will help to achieve these goals. An eye report or statement from your doctor proving your visual impairment is required. Also, include a letter from your school stating proof of enrollment. Dupage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers, 2006 Scholarship Application Deadline: April 30, 2006

The Dupage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will award a scholarship to students of Italian extraction who have completed at least one semester of law school and are currently enrolled in law school. Generally, two scholarships are awarded ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications and letters of recommendation are required to apply. Knights of Dabrowski Crusade for Education, Financial Aid Program

Application Deadline: May 31, 2006

Students of Polish descent in need of financial aid may apply to the Knights of Dabrowski Crusade for Education program. A limited number of scholarships are available on the basis of documented financial need, academic performance and community involvement. Basic eligibility requirements are: full-time enrollment in fully accredited college/university; U.S. citizenship or documented legal alien of Polish heritage; good academic standing and documented financial need; and Chicago area residency for at least four years. Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc., Financial Scholarships

Application Deadline: July 1, 2006

The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. supports the educational activities of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. To qualify for consideration, a student must meet the following criteria: U.S. citizenship; Polish heritage by at least one parent; Chicago area residency; full-time student; exhibit financial need and good academic standing.
