External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! The Nordic Law Club of Chicago Annual Scholarship

Application Deadline: December 15, 2006

The Nordic Law Club of Chicago awards $1,000 each year to a deserving third-year day or fouth-year evening student who has a demonstrated interest in international law issues. Final selection will be based on interest, merit and financial need. To apply, students must submit a letter of application and resume to the Office of Admissions, Suite 230, by the application deadline. Once selected, the recipient will be invited to attend one of the Club's events for special recognition.

Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest

Intent Form Deadline: January 31, 2007

Essay Deadline: March 30, 2007

The topic for this year's essay contest is "Whose Earth is it Anyway? How Far can Environmental Protections Extend under the current 5th Amendment Takings Doctrine?" The essay prize is a $5,000 cash award. For Rules and Intent-to-Enter form, please visit the Pound Institute website at www.poundinstitute.org.

Elaine Osborne Jacobson Award for Women in Health Care Law

Nomination Deadline: March 9, 2007

This national award is given annually to a woman law student with demonstrated interest in health care law. Candidates must be nominated by a law school dean or professor. For nomination, the candidate shall be a woman currently enrolled in an accredited North American law school on a full- or part-time basis who through her law school academic and clinical work and other related activities demonstrates her aptitude for and a long-term commitment to a legal career of advocacy on behalf of the health care needs of children, women, the elderly or the disabled. The award recipient will receive a $3,000 cash award. NEW! Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: Feburary 1, 2007

The IFA Educational Foundation is now seeking applicants for a new Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award. The award is being sponsored by one of the nation's leading law firms, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary and is being administered by the IFA Educational Foundation. The goal of this scholarship program is to recognize and support academic achievement among minority law students and to encourage these students to enroll in courses of study related to franchising. The award is $4,000 and will be presented annually. The award will be issued to the law school in which the student is enrolled for tuition only. The scholarship may not be used by the selected student's law school to reduce the amount of financial aid being received by the student. In addition to the scholarship, the selected student may be invited to various functions, such as the IFA Annual Legal Symposium or other meetings, sponsored by DLA Piper US LLP. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school at 2L or 3L status, be enrolled in at least one course oriented towards franchise law, and be a member of a minority group. NEW! The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Academic Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2007

Educational scholarship funds from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago are available for the 2007-08 academic year. Approximately $500,000 is available for Jewish students who are identified as having promise for significant contributions in their chosen careers, and are in need of financial assistance for full-time academic programs. To be eligible, students must be actively enrolled full-time in a graduate or law program and have legal domicility in the greater Chicago metropolitan area, or in some cases Cook County or Northwest Indiana. Refugees or asylees are encouraged to apply, as citizenship is not a prerequisite. The Jewish Vocational Service administers the scholarship program and personally interviews all applicants before April 20, 2007. To apply, go to www.jvschicago.org and click on Scholarship Services.
