External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 31, 2007

The Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago has several scholarships each in the amount of $1500 available to students currently attending law school in Illinois or neighboring states. These scholarships are open to students with Chicago ties and Czech, Moravian, Ruthenian, Silesian or Slovak ancestry. The $1500 scholarship will be presented at the BLAC Annual Installation Dinner held in Chicago in May. Applications must be postmarked on or before March 31, 2007. All students interested in applying must submit a completed scholarship application form, resume and essay (limit 250 words). NEW! Berman Arts Award

Application Deadline: April 1, 2007

Chicago-Kent alumnus Ronald M. Berman, class of 1987, has established an award for a Chicago-Kent College of Law student who is interested in art, working with or a representing not-for-profit arts organization, or representing artists. The purpose of the Berman Arts Award is to expose law to artists and the way they are trained, thus giving students a unique perspective as they enter the legal profession to represent and work with artists and arts organizations. The Berman Arts Award will provide $1,000 toward tuition and related costs for a Chicago-Kent student to attend a 2007 summer studio workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The Anderson Ranch Arts Center offers more than 130 summer workshops taught by today's most prominent artists and educators who come to share their skills and experience with more than 1,200 participants. There are workshops for artists of all skill levels and experience from the novice to the professional studio artist. Students with interest in art, working for or representing not-for-profit arts organizations, or representing artists and their legal needs (corporate, intellectual property issues) may apply for this unusual opportunity by submitting a curriculum vitae to Elizabeth Turley, Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement, Room 310 on or before April 1, 2007.

NEW! The Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 15, 2007

The Attorney-CPA Foundation is pleased to announce the annual Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships. The Foundation will award scholarships in 2007 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000 to students who will be entering their third year of law school in the Fall of 2007 and who have obtained a CPA certificate. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded over 54 scholarships to students at 28 law schools across the country. Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies. Scholarship applications should be postmarked by April 15, 2007. The recipients will be selected by the Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship committee this July. NEW! The Warner Norcross & Judd Minority Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: April 15, 2007

The law firm of Warner, Norcross and Judd has a Minority Scholarship Program which annually awards $5,000 to a law student, $2,000 to a paralegal student and $1,000 to a legal secretarial student. Winners are chosen by the Firm and Grand Rapids Community Foundation. Interested students should visit the firm's website at http://www.wnj.com/careers/diversity/minority_scholarship/ to print an application and submit it by mail to the Grand Rapids Community Foundation (209C Waters Building, 161 Ottawa Avenue, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503, 616.454.1751). The deadline for applying is April 15, 2007.

Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 19, 2007

The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation is pleased to announce the "Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship". The scholarship was established to honor the commitment and dedication that the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Timothy C. Evans, has devoted to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) and to the community of Cook County. This scholarship is offered to currently enrolled law school students who reside in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division (this includes Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Will, Kendall, Grundy and LaSalle Counties). DuPage County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 23, 2007

The DuPage County Bar Foundation is accepting applications for its annual Hartman Stime Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a DuPage County resident who will begin his or her second year of law school in Fall 2007. The scholarship will be awarded based on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. The application is available at http://www.dcba.org/public/found.htm. The selection committee will interview applicants at the Wheaton office on April 7, 2007. The recipient will be recognized at the foundation's annual Law Day Luncheon, which will tkae place on May 1, 2007. For more details, contact the foundation at 630.653.7779.

2007 Roscoe Pound Institute Awards for Law Students and Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest

Intent Form Deadline: January 31, 2007 Essay Deadline: March 30, 2007

The topic for this year's essay contest is "Whose Earth is it Anyway? How Far can Environmental Protections Extend under the current 5th Amendment Takings Doctrine?" The essay prize is a $5,000 cash award. For Rules and Intent-to-Enter form, please visit the Pound Institute website at www.poundinstitute.org.

National Federation of the Blind

Application Deadline: March 31, 2007

The National Federation of the Blind has a large and prestigious scholarship program whose awards are made solely to persons who are legally blind. The Federation's program will award thirty scholarships to high-achievng legally blind students in summer 2007. Scholarships range from $3,000 to $12,000. Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship/Berks County Bar Association

Application Deadline: April 1, 2007

The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award of $3,000 is presented annually by the Berks County Bar Association, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The scholarship is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his/her second year at an ABA accredited law school. Eligible law students should visit the Berks County Bar Association website at www.bccf.org for an online scholarship application to be submited by April 1, 2007.

Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 1, 2007

The Illinois Bar Association is offering a $500 scholarship to a first, second or third year student interested in a career in public service. To apply, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school; planning a career in Illinois government, at thelocal, state or federal level; and provide proof of a pending job or internship in Illinois - paid or unpaid - in the public sector. The Sovereignty Symposium Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: May 5 , 2007

The Oklahoma Supreme Court, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission, the Sovereignty Symposium Inc., and the Oklahoma Arts Council will host Sovereignty Symposiumm XX, May 30 - 31, 2007, at Oklahoma City's Skirvin Hilton Hotel. As part of the Symposium, the Court offers several types of scholarships ranging from $200 cash prizes for winners of the writing competition to full-tuition scholarships. To apply, applicants must demonstrate an interest in and dedication to Native American law issues and the need for a scholarship in a letter of application. Applications must be submitted by mail to Justice Yvonne Kauger, The Sovereignty Symposium, Attn: Ed Edmondson Scholarship Committee, Oklahoma State Capitol, Room 242, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105.

Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: June 1, 2007

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association is pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students nationwide who have been accepted into an accredited law school. The program is open to all students entering law school in fall 2007. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 197 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession. MCCA will award 10 fellowships at $10,000 per year for each of three years in law school. The total commitment per student fellow will be $30,000. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is June 1, 2007. Application information is available at www.mcca.com and the application process is administered for MCCA by UNCF and students may apply online at www.uncf.org.
