External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW!!! Illinois Bar Foundation Scholarship


Application Deadline: September 28, 2007

The Illinois Bar Foundation will award one scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to a second- or third-year Chicago-Kent student this year. The Board is seeking to award the scholarship to a student who demonstrates an accomplished academic record, involvement in diverse extracurricular and community activities, and has financial need. Membership in the Illinois State Bar Association is encouraged but not required. To access the online application, click here. Completed applications must be submitted to the office of admissions, ATTN: Karla Davis, Director of Admissions, by September 28, 2007. The office of admissions will then forward applications to the foundation by October 15, 2007. The foundation will announce scholarship recipients in January 2008. NEW!!! Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: October 1 , 2007

Banner & Witcoff is pleased to offer the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of Banner & Witcoff's continuing commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds. The Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship is open to all students currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school and pursuing a career in intellectual property law. The applicant must be a member of a historically under represented group (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability) and must have exemplary writing and oral communication skills. Scholarship recipients will receive $5,000 payable for the fall semester of their second or third year of law school. Recipients of the scholarship who accept and successfully complete the firm's Summer Associate Program may receive an additional $5,000 payable for a subsequent semester of law school. Applications will be accepted through October 1, 2007 and awards will be announced December 1, 2007. Applications are available online at www.bannerwitcoff.com/diversity.cfm.

NEW!!! Winston & Strawn Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 1 , 2007

Winston & Strawn is offering five scholarships to diverse law school students who join the 2008 summer program in one of its domestic offices following the conclusion of their second year of law school. The $10,000 scholarship will be paid during the students’ third year of law school.

In selecting the scholarship recipients, Winston & Strawn will consider the students’:

  • Interest in practicing law after graduation in a large law firm in one of the cities in the United States in which Winston & Strawn has an office (currently, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC)
  • Law school and undergraduate record, including academic achievements and involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Interpersonal skills

Scholarship recipients will be announced on or about December 15, 2007. To apply for the Winston & Strawn Diversity Scholarship, please complete and submit the scholarship application along with your resume, law school transcript, and a brief personal statement by November 1, 2007 to diversityscholarship@winston.com. Scholarship applicants who attend a law school at which Winston & Strawn conducts on-campus interviews should also sign up to see us on campus. For all other scholarship applicants, your scholarship application will also serve as your application to our 2008 summer program.

Serbian Bar Association of America Scholarship

Application Deadline: October 1 , 2007

The Serbian Bar Association of America (SBAA) announces is academic scholarships for Serbian-American law students. The schoalrships range from $500 to $2,000 for qualified applicants. To apply, applicants need to be of Serbian birth or ancestry and/or their spouses, and be enrolled in an accredited law school in the U.S. Additional requirements are as follows: applicants must submit a typed essay of no more than 250 words detailing how they plan to use their legal education within the Serbian-American community; submit a certified copy of their law school transcript (or confirmation of enrollment for first years); maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout law school; and submit the completed application by the October 1 deadline. LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Client Review Fellowship

Application Deadline: October 1 , 2007

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association and LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell are pleased to announce the creation of the LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Client Review Fellowship. This program is open to third-year students and will award a one-time $15,000 gift. The deadline for applications is October 1, 2007. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: October 12 , 2007

IPO Education Foundation will award two $10,000 scholarships this year to law students who have completed internships in corporate intellectual property law departments. Applications and eligibility requirements are available online at www.ipoef.org. The deadline to submit an application is October 12, 2007.
