External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! Alumni Board of Directors Scholarship

Application Deadline: January 25, 2008


The Alumni Board of Directors (formerly known as The Law School Association Board of Directors) Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the Board in 1998 to provide scholarship assistance to law students demonstrating academic merit and financial need. For Spring 2008, the Board plans to make several awards of at least $1,000 each. Applications for the Alumni Board of Directors Scholarship are available online or in the Office of Admissions. Students interested must submit applications to the Office of Admissions, ATTN: Karla Davis, by January 25, 2008.

NEW! The Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Chicago Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2008


The Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Chicago is pleased to announce The Gertrude and Harry G. Fins Scholarship Fund will be available for the 2008-09 academic year. The amount available varies annually and awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. To be eligible a student must: be jewish; be enrolling or enrolled full-time; be domiciled in the Chicago metropolitan community; establish financial need; and demonstrate career promise. Students who meet these criteria should visit the Jewish Vocational Service Web site to obtain an application at www.jvschicago.org (click on Scholarship Services). For more information, contact Jewish Vocational Service at 312.673.3400 or email jvsscholarship@jvschicago.org. All applicants must be available for a personal interview at the Jewish Vocational Service offices located throughout the Chicago metropolitan area between March 1 and April 20, 2008.

 

NEW! 2008 Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest

Intent Form Deadline: January 31, 2008

Essay Deadline: March 31, 2008

The topic for this year's essay contest is "Global Warming: How Litigation Can Make a Difference." Any student currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school may submit a legal essay for the competition. Essays can only be written during the academic year covered by the competition and may not be prepared as part of paid legal work outside of law school. The essay prize is a $5,000 cash award. NEW! The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund Essay Contest

Application Deadline: June 1, 2008


The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund is sponsoring a writing contest for law students. The subject of the contest is "The Right of the Individual to Keep and Bear Arms as a Federally Protected Right." Cash prizes will be awarded to First, Second, Third and Fourth place winners in the amounts of $5,000, $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The contest is open to all individuals who are law students at the date of submission and who have not been previously admitted to practice law in the United States. Admission to practice after submission of the paper is not disqualifying. Papers should be double-spaced, not exceed 30 pages in length, exclusive of endnotes, of law review quality, and cannot have been previously published. Publication subsequent to submission is encouraged. Citations should conform with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, current edition. Submissions must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2008 and mailed to Civil Rights Defense Fund, c/o Office of the General Counsel, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
