NEW! Fifth World Conference on Nonsmokers Rights Writing Contest
Contest Deadline: March 1, 2008
The Fifth World Conference on Nonsmokers Rights will be held April 12-13 in Washington, DC where students can network with other attorneys involved in public health and international law. For students interested in public interest law, health law, public policy, medicine and law, and administrative law, this contest is an opportunity to get involved in legal research, advocacy, and affect change in legislation. The writing contest is open to all law students and requires a 1000-word submission. Prizes range from $1000 to $5000. For additional details, visit http://nosmokingcontest.org/.
NEW! ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship
Application Deadline: March 1, 2008
The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend. Therefore law students applying to any and all-ABA accredited law schools may benefit from these scholarships. The application is available online at http://www.abanet.org/fje. Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.
NEW! Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund Scholarship Program

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Educational Fund is pleased to announce the 2007-08 Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) Scholarship Program for Latino law students. The PRBA, founded in New York in 1957 is one of the oldest Latino bar associations in the U.S. Today, the PRBA continues its tradition of breaking down the barriers to the legal profession with active members throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. All Latino students attending law school in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) are eligible to apply. PRBA selects recipients based on financial need and academic promise. Scholarship recipients will be contacted directly by the PRBA by June 2007. All applicants must be a first or second year student in a JD degree program at an ABA approved law school. Students working towards their LLM are not eligible for this award.
Applications are available in the office of admissions, suite 230. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2008.
NEW! Institute of Management Accountants Scholarships
Application Deadline: February 15 , 2008
The Institute of Management Accountants is pleased to offer scholarships to students pursuing accounting and finance graduate degrees. The Scholarships range from $1000 to $5000 and may include lodging, transportation and registration costs to both the IMA Annual Conference and Exposition and the IMA Student Leadership Conference. The application is available on the IMA web site at www.imanet.org/scholarships and the deadline to apply is February 15, 2008.
The Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Chicago Scholarship

The Jewish Vocational Service of Metropolitan Chicago is pleased to announce The Gertrude and Harry G. Fins Scholarship Fund will be available for the 2008-09 academic year. The amount available varies annually and awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. To be eligible a student must: be jewish; be enrolling or enrolled full-time; be domiciled in the Chicago metropolitan community; establish financial need; and demonstrate career promise. Students who meet these criteria should visit the Jewish Vocational Service Web site to obtain an application at www.jvschicago.org (click on Scholarship Services). 2008 Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest

The topic for this year's essay contest is "Global Warming: How Litigation Can Make a Difference." Any student currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school may submit a legal essay for the competition. Essays can only be written during the academic year covered by the competition and may not be prepared as part of paid legal work outside of law school. The essay prize is a $5,000 cash award. The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund Essay Contest
Application Deadline: June 1, 2008
The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund is sponsoring a writing contest for law students. The subject of the contest is "The Right of the Individual to Keep and Bear Arms as a Federally Protected Right." Cash prizes will be awarded to First, Second, Third and Fourth place winners in the amounts of $5,000, $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The contest is open to all individuals who are law students at the date of submission and who have not been previously admitted to practice law in the United States. Admission to practice after submission of the paper is not disqualifying. Papers should be double-spaced, not exceed 30 pages in length, exclusive of endnotes, of law review quality, and cannot have been previously published. Publication subsequent to submission is encouraged. Citations should conform with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, current edition. Submissions must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2008 and mailed to Civil Rights Defense Fund, c/o Office of the General Counsel, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
