External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! The Women’s Bar Foundation 2009 Public Service Stipend Award

Application Deadline: July 7, 2009

The Women's Bar Foundation (“WBF”) is pleased to announce that it will again award a Public Service Stipend Award ($15,000) to provide financial support to a recent woman Illinois law school graduate who is pursuing a career in public service or to a third-year woman Illinois law student who will pursue public service career after graduation.  

Applications may be submitted electronically from the WBF website at www.womensbarfoundation.org, see on-line appln tab. The foundation will use the following criteria for the selection process: A third year law student or recent graduate who is currently pursuing, or has obtained, employment involving legal services in the not-for-profit or public sector; strong academic record; Present and past extracurricular activities reflecting community involvement or participation in activities within and outside of law school that show a commitment to public service or public interest law; Demonstrated financial need; Involvement with diversity initiatives within law school or the legal community (specific examples required); Personal qualities that suggest a future leadership role in the legal community; and A candidate who is (or who has a strong likelihood of) practicing in Illinois. For full consideration, the application must be submitted no later than July 7, 2009.

 

NEW! The Donald Banner Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: October 1, 2009

The Donald Banner Diversity Scholarship is open to all students currently enrolled in an American Bar Association accredited law school and pursuing a career in intellectual property law. The applicant must be a member of a historically under represented group (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability) and must have exemplary writing and oral communication skills. NEW! The Access Group Scholarship Video Contest

Application Deadline: July 15, 2009

Access Group recently announced a scholarship contest for law students. The Access Group "My Inspiration" contest is calling for current and entering law students to create and submit a brief video describing what inspired them to pursue a legal career. The contest winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship and up to five honorable mention scholarships of $1,500 each will also be awarded. The Jeremy Protas LGBT Patent Law Scholarship

Application Deadline: Between June 1 and July 31, 2009

Jeremy D. Protas, an attorney with the intellectual property law firm of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP, announces the establishment of a Patent Law Scholarship specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender law students intending to pursue a legal career in the field of patent law. Candidates must be second-year students for the 2009-2010 academic year at an American Bar Association-accredited law school, and be eligible to sit for the Patent Bar Exam. Applications for the $1,000 scholarship are due by July 31, 2009. Applications and information can be found at http://jeremy.protas.org/scholarship.

 

Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarships

Application Deadline: July 1 , 2009

The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others. The Club supports educational activities and personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. To qualify for consideration of a scholarship, a student must fulfill the following requirements: be a U.S. citizen; have at least one parent of Polish heritage; be a Chicago resident; currently enrolled full-time second or third year student attending Chicago area school; demonstrate financial need; and permanent resident of State of Illinois. Interested students who meet the above criteria may obtain an application in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

If you have been awarded a Chicago-Kent scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year, please refer to the Scholarship Policies from the current Student Handbook for important information concerning your award.  Please direct any questions about your scholarship to the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.
