External Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! The  Serbian Bar Association of America Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: September 1, 2011

The Serbian Bar Association of America offers four scholarships to eligible law students currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school. These scholarships are awarded at the annual Scholarship Gala, which will be held on October 8, 2011 in Chicago. For information regarding these scholarships, including applications, please visit the Serbian Bar Association web site at www.serbbar.org/scholarship/.

 

The Albert Pick, Jr. Fund Scholarship (for incoming first years)

Application Deadline: June 1, 2011

The Albert Pick, Jr. Fund Law Student Scholarship Program opens May 1, 2011 for applications from law students who are long-term residents of Chicago, planning to enroll as first year full-time students at one of the schools listed below. 

Applicants to the Albert Pick, Jr. Fund Law Student Scholarship Program must-

  • Be long-term residents of Chicago, and
  • Plan to enroll as a first year full-time law student for the entire 2011-12 academic year at one of the following schools: Chicago-Kent, DePaul, John Marshall or Loyola Chicago

Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship 

Application deadline: June 17, 2011   

 Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. With this in mind, Baker Donelson will again award three scholarships to diverse law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2011. Each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses. Additionally, recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position in one of our following offices: Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA; Jackson, MS; or Chattanooga, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, TN.

The Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys Writing Contest

Application Deadline: July 1 , 2011

The Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys is a professional association of healthcare attorneys that fosters the sharing of knowledge and information and the publication of written works in the field of health law. Law students are eligible to participate in this competition by submitting a paper of publishable quality on a federal or Illinois health law issue. Prizes range from $500 - $2500. Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarships

Application Deadline: July 1 , 2011

The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others. The Club supports educational activities and personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. To qualify for consideration of a scholarship, a student must fulfill the following requirements: be a U.S. citizen; have at least one parent of Polish heritage; be a permanent resident of Illinois; currently enrolled full-time second or third year student attending Chicago area school; have acceptable grades; and demonstrate financial need. The Women Trial Lawyers Caucus of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Mike Eidson Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 31, 2011

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women’ Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it.  The Scholarship is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.

The application deadline is May 31, 2011 and the Scholarship will be awarded at the AAJ Annual Convention, which will take place this year in July in New York City. For additional information, please see the AAJ Scholarship Application.
