Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

The DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will once again award a scholarship to students of Italian extraction who have completed at least one semester of law school and are currently enrolled in law school. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000. The committee must receive applications and letters of recommendation from law school faculty no later than March 1, 2013 for full consideration. NEW! Scholarship Opportunity from Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, P.C.

Application Deadline: March 15, 2013

The Law Firm of Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard P.C. announces its 2013law school scholarship program. There are $5,000 total in awards and first place is $2,500. Awards can be used for tuition, supplies, or other school related expenses. A short essay is required and must be submitted by March 15th, 2013 for students to be eligible. NEW!The Cook County Bar Association Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: January 28, 2013

The Barristers' Ball Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Cook County Bar Association Foundation to award scholarships to law school students. The Cook County Bar Association Foundation is the charitable arm of the Cook County Bar Association which is the Nation's oldest association of black lawyers and judges. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and at least current second
year students in good standing at an accredited law school in the Chicago metropolitan area. The 2013 Application is attached.

 

NEW! The William McClain Scholarship funded by the Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Bar Association

Application Deadline: February 20, 2013

The William McClain Scholarship is funded jointly by the Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati (BLAC) and the Cincinnati Bar Association and awarded to a Black Cincinnati resident attending any accredited law school who demonstrates leadership potential, dedication to community, and a financial need. NEW! The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship Fund

Application Deadline: June 21 , 2013

The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship Fund is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. Interested applicants must submit an online application and supply their Student Aid Report or FAFSA documentation. The Walker Scholarship Fund was established to provide assistance to law students in Illinois, Milwaukee, and St. Louis. Any student enrolled at Chicago-Kent College of Law for all or part of the 2013-2014 academic year is eligible and welcome to apply on the Walker website: www.walkerscholarship.org.

While scholarships are open to any current or incoming student, preference is given to sons and daughters of members of Masonic Lodge 1098 in Lombard, Illinois, and to former residents of the Masonic Children's Home in La Grange, Illinois. Relatives of members of other Masonic Lodges in Illinois and elsewhere will also receive strong consideration. The deadline to apply is June 21, 2013.

 

NEW! The Michigan Auto Law Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 1, 2013

Michigan Auto Law is pleased to announce the firm's second annual scholarship program open to students currently in their first or second year of law school. The recipient must be a member of an ethnic or racial minority or demonstrate a defined commitment to issues of diversity within their academic career. One $2,000 scholarship is awarded each year. NEW! ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend. Therefore law students applying to any and all-ABA accredited law schools may benefit from these scholarships. The application is available online at www.ambar.org/DiversityScholarship. Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2013.

 

NEW! The Finnegan Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 6, 2013

The Finnegan Diversity Scholarship Program is accepting applications. The scholarship provides financial support to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in IP law and enhancing diversity in the legal profession. The scholarship award of $15,000 may be applied to costs associated with normal tuition and fees (such as, but not limited to, student activity fees: law school or university fees, and administrative fees). The scholarship recipient will also accept an offer to join the firm as a 2014 Summer Associate in one of the firm's domestic offices (Atlanta, Boston, Palo Alto, Reston or Washington). Students currently completing their first year full-time (or second year part-time) are invited to apply.

The award will be applied to education costs the following academic year, and may be renewed for one additional year if the scholar accepts an associate offer upon successful completion of the Finnegan summer associate program, maintains a GPA of 3.0 or better in law school, and is otherwise in good standing. Additional information about the scholarship and application form are posted online at www.finnegan.com. The deadline for applications is February 6, 2013.

Kegler Brown's Minority Merit Scholarship

Application Deadline: January 7, 2013

The law firm of Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter is currently seeking applicants for its minority student merit scholarship. This spring, the firm will award up to two (2) scholarships to two deserving first year minority law students.

Each $5,000 Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter Minority Merit Scholarship includes a paid summer clerkship position with the firm’s first-year summer associate class. All first-year law students of minority descent are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Scholarship application materials are due to Kegler Brown no later than January 7, 2013. Interested students should submit a resume, application, undergraduate transcripts and first semester law school transcripts (when available) to Cara M. Tammaro, Kegler Brown’s human resources manager. The application, submission details and additional information about the scholarship are available online at www.keglerbrown.com. 2013 marks the tenth year for the KeglerBrown Minority Merit Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a minority student based on academic performance, accomplishments, activities andpotential contributions to the legal community. Minority students from all law schools will be considered for the scholarship.

 

Illinois Judges Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: January 28, 2013

The Illinois Judges Foundation announces its 2013 scholarship in honor of the late Harold Sullivan. The Foundation annually awards scholarship money to one or more Illinois law students. First and second year law students at all of the Illinois law schools are eligible to apply. The 2013 application sets forth the eligibility criteria as well as what is required of the applicant. The application is due on January 28, 2013.

 

Asian American Bar Association for the Greater Chicago Area Law Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

The board members of the Asian American Bar Association for the Greater Chicago Area Law Foundation (“AABA Law Foundation”) and members of its scholarship committee, announce the AABA Law Foundation's scholarship program.  The AABA Law Foundation was established in February 2009, and is a non-profit, charitable and educational affiliate of Asian American Bar Association ("AABA") that is tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). 

One of the goals of the AABA Law Foundation is to provide financial assistance to Asian Pacific American law students who have demonstrated academic excellence and social leadership.  The AABA Law Foundation will award annual scholarships to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving the needs of the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American community, and who will continue to serve the needs of the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American communities through pro bono, public interest, and/or public service legal work in the future.  This year, the AABA Law Foundation intends to award one scholarship of $5,000 and one scholarship of $2,500 to law students who have exemplified that commitment. The  South Suburban Bar Association's, Henry A. Gentile Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 28, 2012

The South Suburban Bar Association has a $1,500 scholarship available to students who meet the criteria set by the South Suburban Bar Association. To apply, students must meet the following criteria: attending an accredited local law school; be a resident of the South Suburbs of Cook County and must have a present interest to practice law in the South Suburbs; and demonstrated financial need. Students interested in applying must submit a brief resume and a cover letter (200 word maximum) indicating why they want to practice on the Southside. Cover letters and resumes must be forwarded directly to South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee, attn: Daniel D. Hinich, 17926 S. Halsted St., Suite 3S. Homewood, IL 60430. Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, December 1, 2012. In order to receive the scholarship award, the student must attend the South Suburban Association Installation Dinner to be held Friday, December 7, 2012.

College Prowler has introduced a $1,000 Chicago Student Scholarship for Chicago area students. Since 2002, College Prowler has been a leading resource for assisting students in their college search as well as finding scholarships to help finance their education. With over $50,000 awarded annually in College Prowler scholarships, we could be a great, free resource for your students – especially with this new scholarship just for them.

Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship

Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. is pleased to offer the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of Banner & Witcofis continuing commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds.

The Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship is open to all students currently enrolled in an American Bar Association accredited law school and pursuing a career in intellectual property law. The applicant must be a member of a historically under represented group (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability) and must have exemplary Writing and oral communication skills. Fredrikson & Byron Foundation Minority Scholarship

The Fredrikson & Byron Foundation announces its 2012 scholarship opportunity for an exceptional first-year minority law school student. This is the 20th year of the firm’s minority scholarship program, which awarded $10,000 to this year's recipient, Chrishon A. McManus.

The scholarship program is part of the Fredrikson & Byron Foundation’s commitment to promoting diversity amongst incoming law professionals. The purpose of the program is to encourage them to join and excel in the private practice of law within larger corporate law firms in the Upper Midwest. The scholarship is awarded based on law school performance, professional references, work and other activities, writing samples, and personal interviews.
