Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions receives notices of scholarships that are offered through external organizations. Information about the scholarship awards that are currently available is listed below.  Award notices are listed in the order in which they were received.

NEW! The DuPage Association of Women Lawyers Judge Helen Kinney Award

Application Deadline: May 1, 2013

The Board of Directors for the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and the Chair of the Scholarship Committee announce their annual Judge Helen C. Kinney Scholarship. The scholarship is open to all first, second and third year women law students with a connection to DuPage County. To apply, interested students must submit the DAWL 2013 Application by May 1, 2013.

 

The American Association for Justice Scholarship Programs

Application Deadline: May 1, 2013

The American Association for Justice (AAJ) Fund announces its 2013 Scholarship Programs. AAJ offers a variety of different scholarship opportunities for currently enrolled law students. Kane County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 30, 2013

Through the generosity of Kane County Bar Association members, the Foundation has been able to award at least two scholarships of $1,500 each year. Qualified applicants are Kane County residents (or whose parents reside in Kane County) who are currently attending law school. Grand Rapids Community Foundation Scholarships

Application Deadline: April 1, 2013

The Grand Rapids Community Foundation administers two scholarship programs funded by local law firms aimed at increasing diversity in all areas of the legal profession.

Miller Johnson West Michigan Diversity Scholarships for minority students are available to students of ethnic minority currently residing in Michigan (with preference given to West Michigan residents) pursuing a law degree at any accredited law school in the United States. One $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year.

Warner Norcross & Judd LLP Scholarships for minority students are awarded to students of racial and ethnic minority heritage pursuing a law degree. One $5,000 scholarship is awarded each year. The law school scholarship is not limited to schools in Michigan; however the applicant must be a current or former resident of Michigan if they are not currently attending a school in Michigan.

Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 29, 2013

The Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago (BLAC) has several scholarships each in the amount of $2,000 available to students attending law school in the greater Chicagoland area. These scholarships are open to students of Czech, Moravian, Ruthenian, Silesian or Slovak ancestry. Applications must be submitted by March 29, 2013. All students interested in applying must submit a completed scholarship application form, resume, transcript, and essay (limit 500 words). Applications are online at www.bohemianlawyers.org.

 

The Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 1, 2013

The Illinois Government Bar Association serves public interest attorneys throughout the state of Illinois. Members include circuit, appellate and federal judges, as well as practitioners in many State agencies. The association is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship of $750. This scholarship is designed to recognize outstanding commitment and achievement in public interest law. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2013 to be considered. Application guidelines are available in the office of admissions, suite 230.


Northwest Suburban Bar Association, Timothy Evans Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 15, 2013

The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation is pleased to announce that they are accepting applications for the "Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship". The scholarship was established to honor the commitment and dedication that Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Timothy C. Evans has devoted to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) and the community of Cook County.

The scholarship is offered to currently enrolled law school students who reside in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division (this includes Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Will, Kendall, Grundy & LaSalle counties). Scholarship awards range from $500 - $2500.

Applications are available online at www.nwsba.org. Completed applications must be received by Friday, March 15 and fax submissions will not be accepted. Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois Opportunity

Application Deadline: March 29, 2013

The Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois is accepting applications from 1L students for its annual scholarship award. Click here for the application.

HLSF is also soliciting applications for summer fellowship opportunities with the Cook County State’s Attorneys’ Office, the Cook County Public Defenders’ Office and the Chicago Regional office of the National Labor Relations Board. Each recipient will be awarded a $5,000 summer stipend. Hispanic law students of any level may apply. Click here for the application.

Applications for the scholarships and fellowships are due back March 29, 2013. Recipients will be honored at a reception that will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the law offices of Winston & Strawn LLP, 35 W. Wacker Dr., Chicago, IL.

Nadrich & Cohen, LLP Emergency Scholarship Fund

Application deadline: June 30, 2013

The partners at Nadrich & Cohen, LLP are passionate about promoting our civil justice system. We also understand firsthand the challenges of meeting the academic and financial demands of attending law school. We know how rewarding the experience can be. Now more than ever, America needs qualified attorneys who are committed to the civil justice system, and who stand ready to make a real difference on behalf of consumers.

In that spirit, we are proud to announce the Nadrich & Cohen Emergency Scholarship Fund. This award is to be awarded to a deserving law school student for the 2013-2014 academic year. The scholarship consists of $1,500, payable through the law school for the student's behalf.

The Women Trial Lawyers Caucus of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Mike Eidson Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 1, 2013

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women’ Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship, traditionally given in the amount of $5,000, is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.

The application deadline is May 1, 2013 and the Scholarship will be awarded at the AAJ Annual Convention, which will take place this year in July in San Fransisco. For additional information, please see the AAJ Scholarship Application.

 

The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 1, 2013

In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office.

The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event. It is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School.


Interested students should visit the organization's web site, www.bccf.org for an on-line application for the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship. Complete applications must be submitted to Berks County Community Foundation between January 15th and April 1st.


The Buckfire & Buckfire Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 31, 2013

The Michigan personal injury lawyers of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. are pleased to announce its first annual 2013 Diversity Scholarship for law students. The scholarship has been created as part of Buckfire & Buckfire’s commitment to build on the promise of diversity within the workplace, community and society.

The Diversity Scholarship is $2,000.00 and will be awarded to a student who is currently attending an accredited law school, who is either a member of an ethical or racial minority or demonstrates commitment to issues of diversity within their academic career. The first annual award will be awarded in 2013. The Black Women Lawyers' Association of Chicago Essay Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 13, 2013

The Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago Scholarship Committee announces the BWLA’s Spring Essay Scholarship. The mission of the BWLA is to encourage and support African-American women in law, and its essay contest is open to all students. Winners will be chosen based on their essay, resume, and interview. The minimum cash prize is $3,000. To apply, please return the BWLA Essay application and required application documents by March 13, 2013. DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

The DuPage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will once again award a scholarship to students of Italian extraction who have completed at least one semester of law school and are currently enrolled in law school. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000. The committee must receive applications and letters of recommendation from law school faculty no later than March 1, 2013 for full consideration. Scholarship Opportunity from Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, P.C.

Application Deadline: March 15, 2013

The Law Firm of Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard P.C. announces its 2013law school scholarship program. There are $5,000 total in awards and first place is $2,500. Awards can be used for tuition, supplies, or other school related expenses. A short essay is required and must be submitted by March 15th, 2013 for students to be eligible. The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship Fund

Application Deadline: June 21 , 2013

The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship Fund is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. Interested applicants must submit an online application and supply their Student Aid Report or FAFSA documentation. The Walker Scholarship Fund was established to provide assistance to law students in Illinois, Milwaukee, and St. Louis. Any student enrolled at Chicago-Kent College of Law for all or part of the 2013-2014 academic year is eligible and welcome to apply on the Walker website: www.walkerscholarship.org.

While scholarships are open to any current or incoming student, preference is given to sons and daughters of members of Masonic Lodge 1098 in Lombard, Illinois, and to former residents of the Masonic Children's Home in La Grange, Illinois. Relatives of members of other Masonic Lodges in Illinois and elsewhere will also receive strong consideration. The deadline to apply is June 21, 2013.

 

The Michigan Auto Law Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 1, 2013

Michigan Auto Law is pleased to announce the firm's second annual scholarship program open to students currently in their first or second year of law school. The recipient must be a member of an ethnic or racial minority or demonstrate a defined commitment to issues of diversity within their academic career. One $2,000 scholarship is awarded each year. ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend. Therefore law students applying to any and all-ABA accredited law schools may benefit from these scholarships. The application is available online at www.ambar.org/DiversityScholarship. Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2013.

 

Asian American Bar Association for the Greater Chicago Area Law Foundation Scholarship

The board members of the Asian American Bar Association for the Greater Chicago Area Law Foundation (“AABA Law Foundation”) and members of its scholarship committee, announce the AABA Law Foundation's scholarship program.  The AABA Law Foundation was established in February 2009, and is a non-profit, charitable and educational affiliate of Asian American Bar Association ("AABA") that is tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). 

One of the goals of the AABA Law Foundation is to provide financial assistance to Asian Pacific American law students who have demonstrated academic excellence and social leadership.  The AABA Law Foundation will award annual scholarships to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving the needs of the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American community, and who will continue to serve the needs of the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American communities through pro bono, public interest, and/or public service legal work in the future.  This year, the AABA Law Foundation intends to award one scholarship of $5,000 and one scholarship of $2,500 to law students who have exemplified that commitment. Fredrikson & Byron Foundation Minority Scholarship

The Fredrikson & Byron Foundation announces its 2012 scholarship opportunity for an exceptional first-year minority law school student. This is the 20th year of the firm’s minority scholarship program, which awarded $10,000 to this year's recipient, Chrishon A. McManus.

The scholarship program is part of the Fredrikson & Byron Foundation’s commitment to promoting diversity amongst incoming law professionals. The purpose of the program is to encourage them to join and excel in the private practice of law within larger corporate law firms in the Upper Midwest. The scholarship is awarded based on law school performance, professional references, work and other activities, writing samples, and personal interviews.
