The application deadlines for the following scholarship awards have already passed.  This information is provided to assist you in determining the time of year that various awards are typically offered.  Awards are listed in chronological order by their application deadline.

Peoria County Bar Association Diversity Scholarship

Application Deadline: August 6 , 2007

The Peoria County Bar Association (PCBA) is proud to announce its 2007-08 Diversity Scholarship. The PCBA will award $1,500 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient. The Diversity Committee of the PCBA will select the recipients. To apply, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: must be a first, second or third year law student in 2007-08; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; must be attending an ABA-accredited law school. In addition to the submision of the application and personal statement, the PCBA Diversity Commitee may ask for a telephone interview. Illinois Judicial Council Foundation Scholarships

Application Deadline: July 1 , 2007

The Illinois Judicial Council Foundation announces its 2007 Law School Scholarships. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria: be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school, rank in good standing, submit an official transcript, submit a financial statement, submit a completed scholarship application, submit two letters of recommendation, submit a personal statement and resume, and plan to be available to the scholarship commitee if selected. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship

Application Deadline: June 30 , 2007

The Darleen J. and Robert L. Walker Scholarship Fund is accepting applications for the upcoming academic year. Information and instructions for applying may be obtained online at www.walkerscholarship.org. Under the terms of the scholarship, preference will be given to a son or daughter of a member of Masonic Lodge 1098 in Lomard, Illinois, or to former residents of the Masonic Children's Home in La Grange, Illinois, and those who come from Masonic families. Scholarships may be renewed upon verification of continued financial need and continued good standing in law school. Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. Scholarships

Application Deadline: July 1 , 2007

The Polish Women's Civic Club, Inc. is a philanthropic organization of American women of Polish descent interested in discovering the richness of their Polish heritage and sharing it with others. The Club supports educational activities and personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. To qualify for consideration of a scholarship, a student must fulfill the following requirements: be a U.S. citizen; have at least one parent of Polish heritage; be a Chicago resident; currently enrolled full-time second or third year student attending Chicago area school; demonstrate financial need; and permanent resident of State of Illinois. Interesed students who meet the above criteria may obtain an application in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

Alabama Law Foundation,Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship

Application Deadline: June 1 , 2007

The Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited law school in the U.S. and will be a second year student. The scholarship will cover tuition and books for the second year of law school to a maximum of $5,000. A second place scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the committee's discretion. While academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship; consideration will be given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest ethical standards. The application can be completed online or downloaded in PDF format at the Alabama Law Foundation website, www.alfinc.org. The deadline for submitting applications for the 2007-08 school year is June 1, 2007.

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: June 1 , 2007

The United Negro College Fund and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association are pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students nationwide who have been accepted into an accredited law school. The scholarship program will provide 10 scholarships at $10,000 per year for up to three years. The total commitment per student is $30,000. Three runner-ups will also receive a one-time gift of $10,000 for their participation. Applicants must: be a U.S. citizen and able to show proof of same; demonstrate high academic achievement during his/her undergraduate work; show proof of his/her acceptance into a U.S. accredited law school on or before the application deadline; demostrate community service and leadership qualities; have an interest in corporate law, including working in a corporate law department and/or law firm; have an interest in diversity; and be financially disadvantaged. Essex County Bar Association Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 11 , 2007

The Essex County Bar Association (ECBA) and its Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in conjunction with the Honorable Vincent J. Biunno Memorial Fund is pleased to announce the continuation of the Biunno Scholarship Program for the 2007-08 school year. The scholarships are designed to offer financial assistance to persons with a disability who are currently attending law school. For purposes of this scholarship, a disability is limited to a permanent physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual having such an impairment. Persons wishing to apply for the scholarship should know that apart from the requirement that they demonstrate a permanent disability consistent with the criterion outlined above, no other single criterion will be dispositive to selection of this award. A variety of other factors, including financial need, law school achievement and commitment to the practice of law will enter into the decision making process. Dupage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 11 , 2007

The Dupage County Chapter of the Justinian Society of Lawyers will, once again, be awarding a scholarship to students of Italian extraction who have completed at least one semester of law school and are currently enrolled in law school. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and will be awarded in mid-May 2007. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

The Sovereignty Symposium Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: May 5 , 2007

The Oklahoma Supreme Court, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission, the Sovereignty Symposium Inc., and the Oklahoma Arts Council will host Sovereignty Symposiumm XX, May 30 - 31, 2007, at Oklahoma City's Skirvin Hilton Hotel. As part of the Symposium, the Court offers several types of scholarships ranging from $200 cash prizes for winners of the writing competition to full-tuition scholarships. To apply, applicants must demonstrate an interest in and dedication to Native American law issues and the need for a scholarship in a letter of application. Crusade for Education Financial Aid Program

Application Deadline: April 30, 2007

Students of Polish descent in need of financial aid may apply to the Knights of Dabrowski Crusade for Education program for help. A limited number of scholarships are available on the basis of documented financial need, academic performance and community involvement. Students are eligible to apply who meet the following requirements: full-time student enrolled in law school at a fully accredited college/university in the U.S.; U.S. citizen or documented legal alien of Polish descent; good academic standing and documented financial need; resident of Chicago metropolitan area for at least four years (proof of residency required); and recipient must be able to attend a scheduled interview in late spring and Award Presentation Ceremony in the fall of 2007. Kane County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Through the generosity of the Kane County Bar Association members, the Kane County Bar Foundation has been able to award multiple scholarships. The Foundation awards at least two scholarships annually of $1,000 each to deserving Kane County resident law students. Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 30, 2007

The Federal Circuit Bar Association announces its annual award in memory of Giles S. Rich, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The Association awards a $10,000 award to a law student showing financial need and demonstrated academic promise, either in undergradaute studies or in law school. Selection of the award will be based primarily on a one-page written submission stating the applicant's financial need, any interests in particular areas of the law, and any qualifications for the award considered relevant by the applicant. The submission should also include all of the applicant's college and law school transcripts, and a one page curriculum vitae. All of the submitted materials will be considered, and prior academic performance will not be the primary criteria for selection. All material should be sent to: Stephen L. American Association for Justice, Alia Herrera Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 1 , 2007

The 2007 Alia Herrera Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, is open to law students who are entering their second or third year of law school, or have the equivalent of one year to complete. The winning applicant must be able to commit to attending the AAJ Spouse Luncheon in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, July 17, 2007. Eligible applicants are: law students who are attending law schools in the Chicago area; or law students who are student members of the law school student section of AAJ; or law students who are children of AAJ members. Scholarship applications must include a cover letter; resume; transcript; letter of recommendation from a law professor or the dean of the law school; and a 500-word essay on the following: "If you had the power to make one permanent change that would substantially improve our civil justice system, what change would you make and why?" Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: June 1, 2007

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association is pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students nationwide who have been accepted into an accredited law school. The program is open to all students entering law school in fall 2007. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 197 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession. MCCA will award 10 fellowships at $10,000 per year for each of three years in law school. The total commitment per student fellow will be $30,000. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is June 1, 2007. The Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 15, 2007

The Attorney-CPA Foundation is pleased to announce the annual Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarships. The Foundation will award scholarships in 2007 in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000 to students who will be entering their third year of law school in the Fall of 2007 and who have obtained a CPA certificate. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded over 54 scholarships to students at 28 law schools across the country. Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, leadership in the school and community and need for assistance in completing their studies. Scholarship applications should be postmarked by April 15, 2007. The recipients will be selected by the Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship committee this July. The Warner Norcross & Judd Minority Scholarship Program

The law firm of Warner, Norcross and Judd has a Minority Scholarship Program which annually awards $5,000 to a law student, $2,000 to a paralegal student and $1,000 to a legal secretarial student. Winners are chosen by the Firm and Grand Rapids Community Foundation. Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 31, 2007

The Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago has several scholarships each in the amount of $1500 available to students currently attending law school in Illinois or neighboring states. These scholarships are open to students with Chicago ties and Czech, Moravian, Ruthenian, Silesian or Slovak ancestry. The $1500 scholarship will be presented at the BLAC Annual Installation Dinner held in Chicago in May. Applications must be postmarked on or before March 31, 2007. All students interested in applying must submit a completed scholarship application form, resume and essay (limit 250 words). Berman Arts Award

Chicago-Kent alumnus Ronald M. Berman, class of 1987, has established an award for a Chicago-Kent College of Law student who is interested in art, working with or a representing not-for-profit arts organization, or representing artists. The purpose of the Berman Arts Award is to expose law to artists and the way they are trained, thus giving students a unique perspective as they enter the legal profession to represent and work with artists and arts organizations. The Berman Arts Award will provide $1,000 toward tuition and related costs for a Chicago-Kent student to attend a 2007 summer studio workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The Anderson Ranch Arts Center offers more than 130 summer workshops taught by today's most prominent artists and educators who come to share their skills and experience with more than 1,200 participants. There are workshops for artists of all skill levels and experience from the novice to the professional studio artist. National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind has a large and prestigious scholarship program whose awards are made solely to persons who are legally blind. The Federation's program will award thirty scholarships to high-achievng legally blind students in summer 2007. Scholarships range from $3,000 to $12,000. Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship/Berks County Bar Association

The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award of $3,000 is presented annually by the Berks County Bar Association, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The scholarship is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his/her second year at an ABA accredited law school. Illinois Government Bar Association Scholarship

The Illinois Bar Association is offering a $500 scholarship to a first, second or third year student interested in a career in public service. To apply, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school; planning a career in Illinois government, at thelocal, state or federal level; and provide proof of a pending job or internship in Illinois - paid or unpaid - in the public sector. Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 19, 2007

The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation is pleased to announce the "Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship". The scholarship was established to honor the commitment and dedication that the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Timothy C. Evans, has devoted to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) and to the community of Cook County. This scholarship is offered to currently enrolled law school students who reside in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division (this includes Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Will, Kendall, Grundy and LaSalle Counties). DuPage County Bar Foundation Scholarship

The DuPage County Bar Foundation is accepting applications for its annual Hartman Stime Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a DuPage County resident who will begin his or her second year of law school in Fall 2007. The scholarship will be awarded based on the basis of prior academic achievement and economic need. The application is available at http://www.dcba.org/public/found.htm. Elaine Osborne Jacobson Award for Women in Health Care Law

This national award is given annually to a woman law student with demonstrated interest in health care law. Candidates must be nominated by a law school dean or professor. For nomination, the candidate shall be a woman currently enrolled in an accredited North American law school on a full- or part-time basis who through her law school academic and clinical work and other related activities demonstrates her aptitude for and a long-term commitment to a legal career of advocacy on behalf of the health care needs of children, women, the elderly or the disabled. The award recipient will receive a $3,000 cash award. Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 3, 2007

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) is pleased to announce the 2006-07 Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) Scholarship Program for Latino law students. The PRBA, founded in New York in 1957 is one of the oldest Latino bar associations in the United States. Today the PRBA continues its tradition of breaking down barriers to the legal profession with active members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. All Latino students attending law school in the United States (including Puerto Rico) are eligible to apply. PRBA selects recipients based on financial need and academic promise. Scholarship recipients will be contacted directly by the PRBA. All applicants must be a first or second year student (or third year evening student) in a JD degree program at an ABA-approved law school. The average award is $2,000. Applications must be postmarked by March 3, 2007 and forwarded directly to the PRLDEF New York office. Interested students can pick up an application form in the Office of Admissions, Suite 230.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2007

The mission of the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to ensure that these students have the opportunity to attend law school for three years. The scholarship fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his/her time in law school. Applicants for the scholarship must be entering, first-year law students in Fall 2007. Students already in law school are not eligible to apply for the award. NEW! Asian Law Student Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2007

The Asian American Law Scholarship was established by alumni and friends of Chicago-Kent, including the Chinese American Bar Association, to provide financial assistance to students of Asian descent. Students, alumni, and friends celebrated the inception of this scholarship fund at a Chinese New Year reception in February 1997. In awarding the scholarship, the law school gives preference to students planning to serve the Asian community. Selection is based upon demonstrated commitment to serving needs of the Asian American community (most important factor) through pro bono and/or public interest work; good standing at his or her law school; financial need; and leadership potential. Applicants must submit an essay desciribing their commitment to serving the Asian American community and addressing the other criteria for the award, and submit letters of recommendation by persons who can be contacted by the Chinese American Bar Association. The recipient is selected by the Chinese American Bar Association. All application material should be submitted to the Office of Admissions, ATTN: Karla Davis, by February 15, 2007.

NEW! Gates Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2007

The Marvin Gates Memorial Fund provides funds for books and supplies for a financially needy third-year student. Preference is given to students of Jewish faith and to students with demonstrated financial need and a commitment to social justice. The fund was established by Paula Gates, ‘96, in honor of her father, Marvin Gates. Mr. Gates was a professional engineer who valued education and who understood the needs of his community and those of the third world countries where he spent time during his career. Students interested in the scholarship must complete the Gates scholarship application and submit to the Office of Admissions by February 15, 2007

Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award

Application Deadline: Feburary 1, 2007

The IFA Educational Foundation is now seeking applicants for a new Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award. The award is being sponsored by one of the nation's leading law firms, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary and is being administered by the IFA Educational Foundation. The goal of this scholarship program is to recognize and support academic achievement among minority law students and to encourage these students to enroll in courses of study related to franchising. The award is $4,000 and will be presented annually. The award will be issued to the law school in which the student is enrolled for tuition only. The scholarship may not be used by the selected student's law school to reduce the amount of financial aid being received by the student. In addition to the scholarship, the selected student may be invited to various functions, such as the IFA Annual Legal Symposium or other meetings, sponsored by DLA Piper US LLP. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school at 2L or 3L status, be enrolled in at least one course oriented towards franchise law, and be a member of a minority group. The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Academic Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2007

Educational scholarship funds from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago are available for the 2007-08 academic year. Approximately $500,000 is available for Jewish students who are identified as having promise for significant contributions in their chosen careers, and are in need of financial assistance for full-time academic programs. To be eligible, students must be actively enrolled full-time in a graduate or law program and have legal domicility in the greater Chicago metropolitan area, or in some cases Cook County or Northwest Indiana. Refugees or asylees are encouraged to apply, as citizenship is not a prerequisite. NEW! Alumni Board of Directors Scholarship

The Alumni Board of Directors (formerly known as The Law School Association Board of Directors) Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the Board in 1998 to provide scholarship assistance to law students demonstrating academic merit and financial need. For Spring 2007, the Board plans to make several awards of at least $1,000 each. Applications for the Alumni Board of Directors Scholarship are available online or in the Office of Admissions. Students interested must submit applications to the Office of Admissions, ATTN: Karla Davis, by February 15, 2007.

The Marvin Gates Memorial Fund provides funds for books and supplies for a financially needy third-year student. Preference is given to students of Jewish faith and to students with demonstrated financial need and a commitment to social justice. The fund was established by Paula Gates, ‘96, in honor of her father, Marvin Gates. Mr. Gates was a professional engineer who valued education and who understood the needs of his community and those of the third world countries where he spent time during his career. The Frances J. Larkowski Scholarship was established in 1999 with a contribution from the Rosenstiel Foundation. Additional Funds were raised by Polska Wola, the Chicago-Kent Polish American Law Student Organization. The scholarship is awarded to a student with financial need who demonstrates leadership qualities and an interest in supporting the Polish American Community. Preference is given for a a student of Polish descent. The scholarship award is for the amount is $1,000. Larkowski Scholarship Fund applications are available online or in the Office of Admissions. The Nordic Law Club of Chicago has been a professional and social organization for lawyers for over 70 years. The club annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to one student from each of the six area Chicago law schools. NEW! ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship

The mission of the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to ensure that these students have the opportunity to attend law school for three years. The scholarship fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his/her time in law school. Applicants for the scholarship must be entering, first-year law students in Fall 2007. Students already in law school are not eligible to apply for the award. The National Federation of the Blind has a large and prestigious scholarship program whose awards are made solely to persons who are legally blind. The Oklahoma Supreme Court, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission, the Sovereignty Symposium Inc., and the Oklahoma Arts Council will host Sovereignty Symposiumm XX, May 30 - 31, 2007, at Oklahoma City's Skirvin Hilton Hotel. As part of the Symposium, the Court offers several types of scholarships ranging from $200 cash prizes for winners of the writing competition to full-tuition scholarships. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association is pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students nationwide who have been accepted into an accredited law school. The program is open to all students entering law school in fall 2007. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 197 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession. MCCA will award 10 fellowships at $10,000 per year for each of three years in law school. The total commitment per student fellow will be $30,000. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is June 1, 2007. Elaine Osborne Jacobson Award for Women in Health Care Law

This national award is given annually to a woman law student with demonstrated interest in health care law. Candidates must be nominated by a law school dean or professor. For nomination, the candidate shall be a woman currently enrolled in an accredited North American law school on a full- or part-time basis who through her law school academic and clinical work and other related activities demonstrates her aptitude for and a long-term commitment to a legal career of advocacy on behalf of the health care needs of children, women, the elderly or the disabled. The award recipient will receive a $3,000 cash award. Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award

The IFA Educational Foundation is now seeking applicants for a new Franchise Law Diversity Scholarship Award. The award is being sponsored by one of the nation's leading law firms, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary and is being administered by the IFA Educational Foundation. The goal of this scholarship program is to recognize and support academic achievement among minority law students and to encourage these students to enroll in courses of study related to franchising. The award is $4,000 and will be presented annually. The award will be issued to the law school in which the student is enrolled for tuition only. The scholarship may not be used by the selected student's law school to reduce the amount of financial aid being received by the student. In addition to the scholarship, the selected student may be invited to various functions, such as the IFA Annual Legal Symposium or other meetings, sponsored by DLA Piper US LLP. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school at 2L or 3L status, be enrolled in at least one course oriented towards franchise law, and be a member of a minority group. The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Academic Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2007

Educational scholarship funds from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago are available for the 2007-08 academic year. Approximately $500,000 is available for Jewish students who are identified as having promise for significant contributions in their chosen careers, and are in need of financial assistance for full-time academic programs. To be eligible, students must be actively enrolled full-time in a graduate or law program and have legal domicility in the greater Chicago metropolitan area, or in some cases Cook County or Northwest Indiana. Refugees or asylees are encouraged to apply, as citizenship is not a prerequisite.
