Center for Access to Justice & Technology

Chicago-Kent College of Law established the Center for Access to Justice & Technology (CAJT) to make justice more accessible to the public by promoting the use of the Internet in the teaching, practice, and public access to the law.

Public Interest Certificate Program

Chicago-Kent's new Public Interest Certificate Program is currently accepting letters of intent for the certificate program. The Certificate requires 12 credit hours for completion, including Public Interest Law and Policy and the public interest section of Legal Writing IV. Letter of intent forms are available here.

**Reminder: 2Ls pursuing or planning to pursue the Public Interest Certificate should sign up for the public interest section of Legal Writing IV this semester. This will be the only semester 2Ls will be able to meet this course requirement.

Self-Help Web Center (SHWC)

Part-Time Employment Opportunity: The Center for Access to Justice and Technology at Chicago-Kent seeks a part-time staff member to assist self-represented litigants at the Self Help Web Center (SHWC). The SHWC is located on busiest floor of the Daley Center courthouse downtown and empowers those who cannot afford a lawyer by providing guided access to online legal information, referral to local legal aid organizations, and access to online form preparation tools. In addition to helping self-represented individuals, the staff member will also be responsible for training new SHWC volunteers and maintaining the Center’s use statistics.

A candidate for this position must be able to work at least 10 hours per week, be available Monday and Tuesday mornings, and be eligible to receive a federal work study grant. The office of Financial Aid can tell you whether you qualify for federal work study. This is excellent opportunity to make a difference and gain legal-related job experience.

Volunteer Opportunity: SHWC is also currently seeking volunteer web facilitators for the Self-Help Web Desk at the Daley Center. Volunteers at the web desk gain real-world experience by helping self-represented and under-represented litigants access legal information through the internet. To become an SHWC volunteer or to learn more about this program contact Dave Bonebrake; dbonebrake@kentlaw.edu
