Chicago-Kent College of Law established the Center
for Access to Justice & Technology (CAJT) to make
justice more accessible to the public by promoting the use
of the Internet in the teaching, practice, and public access
to the law.

CAJT wins the 2008 Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access
The ABA Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services
has selected the Chicago-Kent College of Law Center for
Access to Justice & Technology as the recipient of the
2008 Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access. The Committee
found the work of the Center to be an outstanding example
of the practical application of technology to legal services
in ways that create greater efficiencies and expand access
to justice.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the Center's projects.
The Center was chosen for this accolade because of your
work on the Student Editorial Board, your volunteer contributions
to the Self Help Web Desk and because of the national prominence
and effectiveness of the A2J Author initiative.
Job Opportunities
Apply for the CAJT Summer Fellowship
CAJT invites students to apply for a 13-week fellowship,
beginning May 19th and continuing through August 15th.
The recipients of this fellowship will have the opportunity
to spend the summer working with several unique initiatives
that lie on the crossroads of public interest law and technology.
The selected Fellows will be able to work on acclaimed projects
of national scope. In doing so, these students will gain
legal research experience, exposure to new, innovative technologies
and a unique understanding of an increasingly important
area of law. The main responsibilities of this fellow will
involve conducting pertinent legal research, working with
Chicago-Kent’s A2J Author to create online document assembly
tools, creating and editing web content, and assisting in
the marketing of the Self-Help Web Center.
The ideal candidates will possess:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to take direction and work independently;
- Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail;
and,
- Devotion to social justice issues
This position requires 30 hours per week over the summer.

CAJT is Looking for Student Fellows to Start Immediately
The Center for Access to Justice & Technology is currently
looking for student fellows to start immediately. The position
requires 15-20 hours per week with flexibility around finals.
To be eligible for the position, applicants must qualify
for Federal Work Study.
The recipients of this fellowship will have the opportunity
to work on several high-profile initiatives that lie on
the crossroads of public interest law and technology. In
doing so, the fellows will gain legal research experience,
exposure to new, innovative technologies and a unique understanding
of an increasingly important area of law.

Iowa Legal Aid Internship
Iowa Legal Aid was awarded a TIG grant which
contains two components. The first is the programming of
Iowa’s pro se forms into Hot Docs, the second is the diagnostic
and triage tool using an A2J Author Interview. They intend
to hire a law student intern to assist in developing the
database for collection and storage of information, along
with developing the actual A2J Interview which will collect
data to determine which services and forms are applicable
to the user’s situation.
The position offers flexible work hours, and
you can do the work from Chicago or wherever you are this
summer. The start date for this position is anytime after
March 1, 2008 and is expected to extend through 2008. The
work can be scheduled around critical academic related activities.

Volunteer Opportunities
Self-Help Web Center (SHWC)
SHWC is currently seeking volunteer web facilitators for
the Self-Help Web Desk at the Daley Center. Volunteers at
the web desk gain real-world experience by helping self-represented
and under-represented litigants access legal information
through the internet. To become an SHWC volunteer or to

Letter of Intent
Chicago-Kent's Public
Interest Certificate Program
is currently accepting letters of intent for the certificate
program. The Certificate requires 12 credit hours for completion,
including Public Interest Law and Policy and the public
interest section of Legal Writing IV. Letter of intent forms
are available on the Center
for Access to Justice & Technology website.
