Notes and Policies for Exams
- You will be required to complete the entire SofTest
download/installation process while you are logged into
the Chicago-Kent network using your CK user name. There
are two reasons for this. First, your Chicago-Kent network
account must have full permissions to do anything on your
laptop. The easiest way to check that this is
the case is to complete the entire download and installation
process (including registration and qualification) while you
are logged in to the Chicago-Kent network. Second, you
must be able to access the file server drives on the
Chicago-Kent network. If you cannot properly log
in to the Chicago-Kent network, you will not be able to open
your exam files.
- Due to the above mentioned permissions requirements, you
cannot borrow a laptop from a fellow student to take your exams
- Due to the requirement of accessing shared network drives,
Windows XP Home Edition, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows
Vista Home Premium, and Windows 7 Home Premium will not
function for taking an exam on your laptop at Chicago-Kent.
- Chicago-Kent does not support any form of wireless
networking for exams on computers. All connections
should be "hard-wired" with a standard Ethernet network
cable. You are responsible for supplying your
own Ethernet cable when taking an exam on your laptop.
- Taking an exam on a Mac computer is allowed only if the Mac
is "natively" running Microsoft Windows Vista Business, Windows
Vista Ultimate, or Windows XP Professional via Apple's
"Boot Camp" feature. Mac computers running one of
these operating systems for exams are subject to the same
network configuration, hardware, and software requirements
as a standard Windows-based PC.
- For students wishing to pursue taking an exam on a Mac,
it is your own responsibility to acquire an authentic
licensed copy of Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista
Ultimate, or Windows XP Professional. It is also
your own responsibility to have the Windows operating system
installed and running on your Mac computer before contacting
the CLC for any exam-related computer assistance.
- As of November 2, 2009, Apple does not support the use of
Windows 7 with the Boot Camp feature of their
computers. Chicago-Kent will not support the use
of Windows 7 on a Mac for taking exams until Windows 7
is officially supported by Apple.
- Virtualized Windows operating systems via products such
as Parallels Desktop for Mac or VMware Fusion for Mac will
not function for exams. For the same reason,
the "Windows XP Mode" feature found in Windows 7 cannot
be used for taking exams.

SofTest Compatibility with Windows 7
As of October 30, 2009 ExamSoft has certified the SofTest
exam-taking program for use with Microsoft's Windows 7 operating
system. The required networking functionality for
computer-delivered exams at Chicago-Kent requires either
Windows 7 Professional edition or Windows 7 Ultimate edition.
Both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 7 have been certified
as being compatible with SofTest.
Please note that the SofTest program will not function for exams
at Chicago-Kent if the program is running within any form
of a virtualized operating system. This includes
the Windows XP Mode functionality of Windows 7.

Revised Web Hosting Policies
Chicago-Kent has revised its policies for web hosting. Chicago-Kent’s web hosting policies can be viewed online at http://www.kentlaw.edu/clc/policies/webpolicy.shtml.
Web pages and multimedia must conform to the file naming conventions as outlined here, http://www.kentlaw.edu/clc/webinfo/filenames.html.
Requests to store multimedia on any Chicago-Kent server must be pre-approved. A form for requesting storage space can be found on the CLC’s web site at http://www.kentlaw.edu/clc/webinfo/requeststorage.php.
Failure to follow these new policies will result in web pages and/or multimedia being removed from the server without notification.
