Printing on KENTNET:
The principle printers in the KENTNET system are Hewlett-Packard
LaserJet 8000N Printers. There is one printer in each lab,
which is set up as the default printer when you sign on in that lab.
How to Use the Printers
From your application (for instance, WordPerfect), choose PRINT. Once
you have sent a job to the printer, you can release it at the print queue
station next to the printer.
Individual Student Printing Accounts
Press F1 for the Queue Manager.
- Select your Print Job using the Arrow Keys.
- Press H to release the Job.
- Press Esc to Return to the Queue Screen.
Please report any problems with printers or printing by E-mail to HELPDESK.
Each student receives 400
pages of printing per semester. Any printing past 400 pages
will be charged to your student printing account at 5¢ per page.
You must settle your student account with the BURSAR'S OFFICE before receiving
your 400 page allotment for the following semester. Students
with outstanding balances will have their Kentnet accounts deactivated
until the balance is paid.
You may ONLY view your page balance through the KENTNET menu at STUDENT
SERVICES | CENTER FOR LAW AND COMPUTERS | PRINTER ACCOUNT BALANCE.
The balance on the print server next to the printer is NOT your accurate
If you have printed work for a faculty member, print out a detailed balance
and have the faculty member sign for their pages. Present the signed
balance sheet to the HELPDESK in the Center for Law and Computers (Room
775). Your print account will be credited accordingly.
LEXIS-NEXIS, WESTLAW, and eLOISe printing are automatically directed to
the Document Center printer. Payment for Document Center printouts
is required when you pick them up.
Graduating students with a delinquent printing balance will NOT receive
their diplomas until the accounts are paid in full.

Answers to some of the most commonly
asked questions of the CLC:
Q: What is the URL for Chicago-Kent's internal web page?
A: It's http://ck.kentlaw.edu.
You can easily access this site either through netscape here at school
or at home through CK-Online (not through private ISPs) by typing in ck
in your browser's netsite field.
Q: How do I access my email from outside school?
A: There's a couple of ways you can do this.
Q: How do I attach a file to an email?
Over the internet through a service called Webmail. When you're
on the internet anywhere in the world, you can always go to http://webmail.kentlaw.edu
you will be prompted for your username and password. Once entered, you
can read and send email, access any of your mailing lists and create and
file messages in folders. Your ability to access this page is unaffected
whether you attach to the internet via your own ISP or through C-K Online.
Using a POP3 account. If you are familiar with POP accounts, then you can
setup your e-mail client to access your email at Kent. To open a POP3 account
here at Kent, print the application from http://ck.kentlaw.edu/dialup/application.html,
complete it and give it to the HELPDESK in 775. If you're unfamiliar with
what a POP3 account is, it is easier to use the Webmail option.
A: The CLC has developed answers to this and other commonly asked
questions through something we call HELPDOCS. These are available on-line
for you to search at your convenience. Click here to go to the HELPDOC
or Receiving Files Attached to An Email Message. A complete listing
of all HELPDOCs is available at http://www.kentlaw.edu/clc/compres/helpdocs.
Q: How do I access the Kent network from outside the school?
A: The "KENT NETWORK" that you see when you log on to the computers
at school is only accessible from here at school. Most of the features
that you get here at school, are becoming available over the internet.
Currently, you can get your E-Mail, grades, read the RECORD and access
class materials over the internet. We are currently working on making the
Career Services Job Listings and Electronic Classifieds available over
the internet, but currently, these are only available at school.
1998-1999 Academic Calendar
The 1998-1999 Academic
Calendar has been update and is available online.
The E-Mail stations located throughout the building are intended to
allow students convenient and quick access to E-Mail and to the Record.
Please be considerate to your fellow students when using these stations.
If you want to compose many or long E-Mails, or browse the Internet at
length, please use one of the computer labs in the library. Thank you for
FYI: Network Maintenance
Regular general maintenance of the network is necessary to ensure greater
performance, both in terms of speed and the prevention of any serious problems.
To achieve these goals, the Center for Law and Computers will periodically
take down the network to perform this maintenance. We've scheduled the
maintenance on a monthly basis, for only 1.5 hours on days
and at times to inconvenience the least amount of users.
Here are the dates that we will be taking the network down. On these
days, the network will not be available between 5:30am and 7:00am.
