Chicago-Kent mourns the death of Stephanie Darice Hill
The Chicago-Kent community was deeply saddened by the recent death
of Stephanie Darice Hill. Ms. Hill, who died January 3, was a first-year
student at our law school.
Born in 1974 in Gary, Indiana, Ms. Hill grew up in Indiana and
Illinois and graduated in 1992 from Thornridge High School in Dolton,
Illinois. Ms. Hill earned her bachelor of science degree from the
University of Houston, where she majored in computer information
systems. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Chicago and
the co-founder of Harris and Hill Personnel, Inc., an employment
agency in Chicago's Loop.
"Stephanie impressed me with her determination," said
Professor Beth Henning, who taught Ms. Hill legal writing and research.
"She would meet with me frequently to master legal research
and writing, and she was conscientious about her studies. She worked
hard to balance work, law school, and caring for her children."
"Stephanie was a very caring person, devoted to succeeding in every
way," said Nicole Gerenstein, assistant director for multicultural
affairs at Chicago-Kent. "She was an outstanding mother, a bright
and dedicated student, and a loyal friend. It was a privilege to have
worked with her as a student and to have known her as a friend."
The Chicago-Kent community extends its sympathy to Ms. Hill's family,
including her children, Tyler and Christopher; her mother, Gail
Denise Hill; her father, Rudolph Delano Hill; her brother, Eric;
and her sisters, Kenisha and Tasha.
Condolences may be sent to Ms. Hill's family through Nicole
Gerenstein, assistant director for multicultural affairs.
