Dear Continuing Student:

I hope you had an enjoyable summer. Linked to this page are initial reading assignments for most upper-level Fall courses. Additional assignments will be posted on the second floor bulletin board as they are received.

In addition to initial assignments, also linked to this page are the following:

* The 1999-2000 academic calendar.
* The bookstore's hours in the coming weeks.
* Trial Advocacy section assignments.
* A Class and Section Status Report (see below).
* A notice describing certain additions and changes to the Fall schedule.
* A notice concerning two courses being taught this Fall by Visiting Professor Yehuda Blum, the internationally known Israeli diplomat and scholar.
* A notice describing a new practicum/externship on refugee and asylum law.
* The final exam schedule for the Fall semester.
Purchasing Books for the Fall Semester: You may ask the bookstore to hold your Fall course books for you when they arrive, or for an extra fee you may request that the books be mailed to you. If you would like to take advantage of either of these options, call 312/906-5605. In addition, you may order your course books over the web by going to the following web site: http://www.follett.com (click on Finding a Bookstore; then the State of Illinois; and then Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent Bookstore).

Schedule Changes: You may add an open course or section any time until Friday, September 3, by submitting a Registration Change Form to the Registrar's office. Enclosed is a Class and Section Status Report listing closed courses and courses with a limited number of spaces remaining. Some additional Advanced Research and Legal Drafting seats should open up after the selection of Moot Court Honor Society members is completed later this month. You may drop courses up until Friday, August 27, and receive a full tuition refund. After that date, you will be charged a portion of the tuition for the course according to a schedule that will be published in the Record.

Fall Final Exams: The final exam schedule for the Spring semester is linked to this page. Absent extraordinary circumstances, you must take your exams at the times scheduled, even if you have two exams in a row or one at 6:00 p.m. and another at 8:30 a.m. the next morning. You are deemed to have an "exam conflict" only if you have two exams scheduled at the same time, or three exams scheduled consecutively. (Please note that you are permitted to register for courses even if their exams are scheduled at the same time; one of your exams will be rescheduled.) If you believe there are extraordinary circumstances justifying rescheduling an exam even though you do not have an exam conflict, contact Chris Matheny, the Director of Student Services, well in advance of the exam date.

December Graduates: If you will graduate at the end of the Fall semester and plan to take the February 2000 Illinois bar exam, please note that applications are due in Springfield by September 1, 1999. Applications filed after that date are subject to stringent late penalties. Application packets are available in the Registrar's office.

I look forward to seeing you when you return, and I hope the remainder of your summer is enjoyable and relaxing.

Sincerely yours,

Stephen D. Sowle
