Statement of Unity from IIT President Collens.  University President Lewis Collens issued the following statement on Friday, September 14:

Together, we have shared a great tragedy this week. We are a community of many religions, nationalities and races. We value each other and understand that the actions of individuals on the religious fringe do not speak for all. I know that we all embrace the wonderful words of our campus minister:
"We are members of the community of IIT, of Chicago, of the United States, of the world. We mourn the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York. Washington and Pennsylvania. We stand in solidarity with the families and friends of those victims in their time of grief and pain. We will not give in to fear or confusion or division. We will not allow innocent members of our community to be harassed because of misperception or prejudice. We will not let terrorism win. We go forth offering our support to one another and pledging to be a living symbol of unity for all to see."
--Eric Schwister, campus minister
As we go forth I find comfort in the words of Emily Dickinson:
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
and never stops at all.
Counseling & Health Services Event: "Coping With the Tragedy." Carol Yoken, the Director of Counseling for IIT, and other members of the counseling staff will hold an event next Wednesday, September 19, to discuss with members of the Chicago-Kent community their reactions to last week's terrorist attacks and ways of coping with the aftermath of the attacks.  The event will take place from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Rm. 580.  Counseling staff will also be available after the event to talk with people either individually or in groups.
