Academic Calender Reminder. Due to a religious holiday, classes are canceled on Monday, September 28.

Notice About H1N1 (Swine Flu).
As you settle into the new semester, we would like to let you know about our preparations in case the H1N1 virus (swine flu) affects you or other members of the Chicago-Kent community. You can find detailed information in our H1N1 FAQ at http://www.kentlaw.edu/depts/stuservices/H1N1faq.html. We would particularly like to encourage you to follow the guidelines listed below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jenna Abhijeet, our Director of Student Services, at jabhijeet@kentlaw.edu.

  • Stay home if you have flu or flu-like illness for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius) or signs of a fever (have chills, feel very warm, have a flushed appearance, or are sweating). This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications (any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).†If you do come down with the flu, please contact Jenna Abhijeet, Director of Student Services, at jabhijeet@kentlaw.edu (students), Assistant Dean Stephen Sowle at ssowle@kentlaw.edu (faculty), or Assistant Vice President Dawn Rupcich at drupcich@kentlaw.edu (staff).
  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Hand sanitizers also are effective. †
  • Practice respiratory etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you donít have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.† Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; germs are spread this way.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu.As noted above, a fever is a temperature taken with a thermometer that is equal to or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius. Look for possible signs of fever: if you feel very warm, have a flushed appearance, or experience sweating or shivering. †
  • Get vaccinated for both the seasonal flu and H1N1 flu. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to get both the seasonal flu vaccination and the H1N1 vaccination. We anticipate receipt of supplies of both vaccines that will be made available to students; we will distribute more information as it becomes available. Faculty and staff should contact their doctor or other health care provider to obtain the seasonal flu vaccination and the H1N1 vaccination (when available) at a local site.

Chicago-Kent will continue to monitor the situation and will notify the community of any additional changes to our institutionís strategy to prevent the spread of flu on our campus.

ASP Workshop on Outlining. The Academic Support Program will present the second of three Fall workshops on Tuesday, October 6, 12:00-1:00 pm, in the Auditorium (for day students) and Wednesday, October 7, at 5:00-5:50 pm, in Rm. 590 (for evening students). This workshop will focus on different approaches to the course outlining process and will feature students and faculty sharing tips for assembling a useable and complete course outline. Although the programs are mainly aimed at first-year students, all students are welcome to attend. For more information about the Academic Support Program, visit the ASP web page.
