Notice About H1N1 (Swine Flu). IIT has developed an FAQ that provides information about the H1N1 virus and the university's plans and procedures for addressing the virus. We encourage all members of the Chicago-Kent community to read the FAQ at http://www.kentlaw.edu/depts/stuservices/H1N1faq.html. We would particularly like to encourage you to follow the guidelines listed below.

  • Stay home if you have flu or flu-like illness for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius) or signs of a fever (have chills, feel very warm, have a flushed appearance, or are sweating). This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications (any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen). If you do come down with the flu, please contact Jenna Abhijeet, Director of Student Services, at jabhijeet@kentlaw.edu (students), Assistant Dean Stephen Sowle at ssowle@kentlaw.edu (faculty), or Assistant Vice President Dawn Rupcich at drupcich@kentlaw.edu (staff).
  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Hand sanitizers also are effective.
  • Practice respiratory etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; germs are spread this way.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu.As noted above, a fever is a temperature taken with a thermometer that is equal to or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius. Look for possible signs of fever: if you feel very warm, have a flushed appearance, or experience sweating or shivering.
  • Get vaccinated for both the seasonal flu and H1N1 flu. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to get both the seasonal flu vaccination and the H1N1 vaccination. Students: We have already offered the seasonal flu vaccination to students, and we may receive more supplies in the near future; we are awaiting supplies of the H1N1 vaccine. Faculty and staff should contact their doctor or other health care provider to obtain the seasonal flu vaccination and the H1N1 vaccination (when available) at a local site.

Chicago-Kent will continue to monitor the situation and will notify the community of any additional changes to our institution’s strategy to prevent the spread of flu on our campus.

Joke of the Week. "Doctor, I broke my arm in three places!" "Well then, stop going to those places!"
