Flu Shots. IIT Student Health Services will give flu shots at the Law School for students, faculty, and staff on Tuesday, October 12, from 3:00-7:00 pm in Rm. 700 (this is a new classroom on the 7th floor, just around the corner from the elevator bay). This year's flu shot covers both seasonal flu and H1N1. Shots will cost $20. You may pay by cash or check (made out to Illinois Institute of Technology), or you can prepay on the Student Health Services web site by clicking here.

ASP Workshop on Outlining: The Academic Support Program's second Fall workshop will address different approaches to the course outlining process and will feature students and faculty sharing tips for assembling a useable and complete course outline. The program for day students will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 12:00-1:00 pm (Auditorium). The program will be offered twice for evening students (given their different schedules), on Tuesday, October 5, 6:00-6:50 pm (Rm. 510), and again on Thursday, October 7, 5:00-5:50 pm (Rm. 510). Although the programs are mainly aimed at first-year students, all students are welcome to attend. For more information about the Academic Support Program, visit the ASP web page.

Elevator Maintenance. A full inspection of the building elevators was recently completed, resulting in the recommendation that the hoist ropes on all of the passenger elevators be replaced (not including the internal Library elevator). Although there are no safety concerns at this time, we will be proceeding with the work in the coming weeks.

The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 28, and should be completed by Friday, November 5. One elevator car will be taken out of service each week. It will take approximately 4-5 days to replace the ropes on each elevator. Work will be done Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm each day. Otis Elevator will be accessing each elevator to do the work on the Concourse and 10th floor. On those two floors, there will be barricades placed in the area around the elevator being serviced. There will be some noise in the elevator vestibules (mostly vacuuming and hammering).

We encourage you to use the stairs whenever possible since there will be increased wait times for elevators until the work is completed.

Family and Friends Day. Please join us for the Family and Friends Day program on Saturday, October 9, from 9:00 am to 12:45 pm. The program is intended to give spouses, partners, parents, children, and other important people in students' lives the opportunity to visit the Law School and get a taste of what their loved ones are experiencing as law students. The program will include mini-classes taught by Prof. Rudstein (Criminal Law), Prof. Batlan (Contracts), and Prof. Buccafusco (Torts), as well as a mock trial demonstration featuring members of our award-winning Trial Team. If you would like to attend, please complete the response form (click here) no later than September 30. If you have any questions, please contact me (ssowle@kentlaw.edu).

Joke of the Week. Question: What do pirates shop for at the Apple store? Answer: The iPatch. (Thanks to Steven Kuptsis for this week's joke!)
