The Foundation of the American College of Trial Lawyers announces its 1998 essay contest devoted to the promotion of professionalism in the practice of law and to stimulating original and provocative thought on current issues of legal ethics. The subject of this year's essay is courageous advocacy. A first place prize of $5,000 and a second place prize of $2,500 will be awarded. Submissions must be received no later than December 1, 1998.
Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. announces its 1998-1999 health care law writing competition. Papers must address an issue of current interest relating to health care law. A first prize of $3,000 and a second prize of $1,000 will be awarded. Entries must be received by January 8, 1999.
The Alliance Defense Fund announces an essay competition on the issue of "The legal definition of marriage as it exists today, as the union of one man and one woman." The paper submitted may be published in a law review or similar scholarly journal. The winner of the competition will receive the William Pew Religious Freedom Scholarship in the amount of $7,500. Entries must be postmarked no later than March 15, 1999.
The Roscoe Pound Foundation announces the 1999 Roscoe Hogan Enviornmental Law Essay Contest on the topic: "What is an environmental expert? The impact of Daubert and Joiner on the Admissibility of Expert Testimony." Three prizes will be awarded: first place $3,000 and a paid trip to San Francisco to receive the award at the annuanl Convention of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; second place $2,000; third place $1,000. Each entry must be submitted through a faculty adviser. Entrants from Fall semester classes must submit an intent-to-enter form by December 11, 1998. Entrants from Spring semester class must submit an intent-to-enter form by February 12, 1999. Students participating outside of a class assignment may use either intent-to-enter date. The essays themselves must be submitted no later than March 31, 1999.
