CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY/RED LINE DETOUR

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The Chicago Transit Authority will begin a maintenance project on the State Street Subway (Red Line) beginning January 16, 2000.  In order to perform the necessary work, the subway must be closed for a brief period each weekend over the next several months.  The proposed subway closure time is from midnight to 9:00 a.m. every Sunday Morning for the duration of the project.

Although the Red Line trains will continue to run over our elevated lines, and replacement bus service will provided during subway closure times, we recognize that our early to mid-morning Sunday riders may be inconvenienced.  We are forwarding this letter to businesses, churches and schools within the State Street Subway service area in advance of the project to minimize any potential confusion.

This maintenance work is a part of our continuing commitment to improve the quality of service our customers have come to expect.  We hope that you find the notice about this project useful and that you contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  I can be reached at (312) 733-7000, extension 6945.

Thank you for your patience and attention to this matter, in addition to your support of public transportation.

Sincerely,

Michael C. Fountain, Manager
Community Relations
