Spring 2011 CHICAGO-KENT STUDENT HIRING

A new payroll authorization must be completed for all student employees who are:

  • New hires
  • International Students that will continue to work after the Fall term ends on 12/31/10
(A new Payroll Authorization must be done each term for international students.)

STUDENT Payroll Authorizations: Should be done on-line. Use "sub"-Account "6307" for NON-WORK STUDY and "6309" for WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE students.

The payroll authorization should be filled out completely listing January 2 or thereafter (if the official hire date is later in the term) as the "Effective Date" of employment and must be submitted on or before work begins.

It should be noted that for new hires, pursuant to federal law and IIT Policy, the Payroll Authorization and other tax, I-9 and Direct Deposit Authorization Forms must be submitted to the Office of Administration and Finance for processing before anyone begins working for you. There have been a few recent cases in which the required paperwork was submitted after the student/PT Temp began working. This puts the institution at risk with the federal government and could result in the possible termination of federal financial aid. Therefore, please be sure to adhere to this critical policy.

The student pay rate will remain at $10.00 per hour.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT END DATES

Use 5/31/2011 for ALL Students.

FEDERAL WORK STUDY (FWS)

Community Service FWS

The FY11 FWS FOAP is 341025 207A 6309 2451.

Chicago B Cycle Bike Rental Program

The Chicago B Cycle Program allows for bike rental from any self-service B Cycle bike station and return to any station located throughout the city. The IIT Main Campus is participating in the B Cycle Program and two bike stations will be installed at the main campus for use by faculty, staff and students this April.

We are trying to gauge the level of interest for having a bike station installed here at the Downtown Campus (we'd locate it on the side or back of our building). Therefore, if you are interested in having a B Cycle station conveniently located at the DTC, we'd appreciate it if you would fill out a short survey (link below) by Wednesday, March 23rd.

Survey

Whether or not we have a station located here, all IIT faculty, staff and students from any IIT campus can purchase a one year membership for $25 which allows for:

Unlimited trips per day

Up to 2-hours per trip, post 2-hours*, and $5 per 30 minutes for trips that exceed 2-hours

(* Post 2-hours means you can take the bike out for up to 2-hours, return it and get another bike 2 hours after the first bike was returned without incurring additional charges)

*The regular membership rate is $25 per month for students/seniors and $35 per month for all others.

Several B Cycle stations are already located in the Loop and UIC areas including:

Daley Plaza
Millennium Park
541 N. Fairbanks
John Hancock Building
800 S. Halsted -- UIC
1221 S. Halsted - UIC

Chicago B Cycle expects to have more than 50 stations available by this summer.

Detailed information about the program can be viewed at the link below:
