The deadline to apply for the 2011-2012 Alumni Board of Directors has passed. Information about the 2012-2013 application period will be posted in February 2012.

Eligibility

Nominees must have received a degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law.

The nominating committee requires the following information:

  • A completed application/nomination form.

  • A letter outlining why the alumnus or alumna wants to serve in this capacity and the skills or experiences that he/she will bring to the Board of Directors
  • Resume or curriculum vitae

Purpose

The purposes for which the IIT Chicago-Kent Alumni Board of Directors is organized is to foster a spirit of loyalty and fraternity among the alumni of the College; to foster and maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession; to improve and to facilitate the administration of justice; to promote the study of law and research therein, the diffusion of knowledge thereof, and the continuing education of lawyers; to relieve, aid and assist deserving graduates, students and members of the faculty of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law; to effect united action in promoting the general welfare of the College as an educational institution and in furtherance of the foregoing purposes, to promote, support, develop, encourage, maintain, receive and accept funds, gifts and contributions in connection with and in furtherance of the foregoing purposes and to establish, own, support, maintain, acquire, develop, and/or operate such other programs, activities, entities and institutions not inconsistent with the foregoing purposes, as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.

Board of Directors Composition

The Alumni Board of Directors is comprised of a president, president-elect, first vice-president, second vice-president, immediate past president, and 10 – 17 regular directors.  Members are elected to serve three-year terms and can only serve more than two consecutive terms if approved by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Committee of the Board.

Role of Director

Each director is responsible for representing IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law alumni through bringing ideas to the Board that can best serve the general alumni population.  Each director should serve on at least one Board committee and participate in college events and activities as a representative of the Alumni Board.   

The Alumni Board of Directors meets four times per year on a week day. Most meetings are held at the law school. Committees may meet outside of general meetings, and members can also participate via teleconference.  Board members are also strongly encouraged to attend the annual Alumni Awards & Recognition Luncheon in November. 

Members of the Board are encouraged to contribute a monetary donation to the College in conjunction with their appointment to the Board in the form of annual contributions during the term of office. The suggested minimum annual donation for a Board Member is $1000, or $500 is the member is either employed by a public interest agency or government entity or graduated from the law school within the last five years.
