Celebrating Our Commitment to the Public Interest

In the more than 125 years since its founding, Chicago-Kent has established a profound impact on the legal community, including a long-standing legacy of commitment to public service. Chicago-Kent students, alumni and faculty are passionate advocates who seek to meet the needs of many Americans who are unable to obtain affordable and fair legal support. Our Public Interest Certificate Program, Public Interest Resource Center volunteer initiative, and the Center for Access to Justice & Technology all help prepare the path for students committed to the public interest.

This month, we will celebrate this legacy of public service at the Seventh annual Public Interest Awards on Wednesday, April 16 in the Ogilvie Auditorium at Chicago-Kent. This year we honor three alumni, Angelic Young '01, Dina Nikitaides '08 and Max Stein '01, who have made outstanding contributions to the public interest, as well as our Public Interest Partner, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, for providing opportunities for Chicago-Kent students to gain meaningful experience in public interest practice. Current students will also be recognized for their commitment to public service throughout their law school careers. For more information about the event and this year’s award recipients, visit our website.

Another popular opportunity to support Chicago-Kent’s next generation of public interest lawyers is the Kent Justice Foundation’s Annual Spring Auction on Thursday, April 10. All proceeds from the auction benefit the KJF Public Interest fellowships, which provide stipends for students who dedicate their summer to working in unpaid public interest law jobs. Alumni have already assisted in this effort by donating auction items such as lunches, dinners and Cubs and White Sox tickets. For more information, contact Rory Quinn at rquinn2@kentlaw.iit.edu.

Join me in honoring our proud tradition of public service by attending one or both of these events. I wish you well.

Sincerely,

Harold J. Krent
Dean and Professor of Law

Alumni Hosts Needed for Spring ConneKtions @ Dinner Week April 21-25
ConneKtions @ Dinner is an opportunity for alumni in Chicago to host a small group of students at local restaurants or open their homes to students for small dinner parties, bringing together students, alumni and faculty in a friendly environment for good food, conversation, camaraderie and to build a stronger Chicago-Kent community.

We are currently seeking hosts for the week of April 21-25. For more information about hosting, click here.

Support the Kent Justice Foundation's Annual Spring Auction
The Kent Justice Foundation's Annual Spring Auction will take place on Thursday, April 10. The Casino Royale event will begin with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m, and continuing with a live auction from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Contact Rory Quinn at rquinn2@kentlaw.iit.edu for more information. All alumni are invited to attend.

KJF is also still seeking donations for the auction itself. Past donations have included tickets to Chicago Bears games, tickets to the theater and alumni-arranged lunch and dinner experiences for groups of students. To donate, contact Lydia Ness at lness@kentlaw.iit.edu.

Chicago-Kent Alumnus Tarek Fadel '03 to Receive IIT Outstanding Young Alumni Award
IIT will honor Chicago-Kent alumnus Tarek Fadel with its Outstanding Young Alumni Award at the IIT Alumni Awards on Friday, April 25. Chicago-Kent Is Calling...Be Sure to Answer Your Phone
Chicago-Kent's annual Phone-a-thon program is under way, and representatives will be calling alumni and friends of the law school to encourage donations to Chicago-Kent. Whether you are renewing your gift or making a first time donation, your support directly impacts the lives of Chicago-Kent students.

If you miss our call or prefer to give online, simply visit our website.
