New Facilities Improvements Underway at Chicago-Kent

Chicago-Kent initiated a number of building projects this spring to improve our students' experience and enhance the reputation of the law school.

On April 8, we dedicated the James L. Morici, Jr. Advocacy Corridor, a new space outside the first-floor courtrooms which, thanks to the generosity of its namesake, will now house trophy cases for our advocacy teams. With the continuing success of both our Trial Advocacy and Moot Court teams, Jim’s gift could not have come at a better time.

This summer’s projects include renovations to open the Flanagan Family Terrace, an outdoor patio space on the 9th and 10th floors well as the Elaine R. Levin Student Lounge on the 2nd floor. Through the generous philanthropy of Thomas Flanagan '63 and Elaine R. Levin '85, students will now be able to take a break from study in the library to enjoy fresh air and study with friends in the Starbucks atmosphere of the second-floor student lounge.

These gifts are just a few examples of how alumni support is vital to the growth of Chicago-Kent. I want to thank Tom, Jim, Elaine and all the members of the alumni community who donated to Chicago-Kent this past fiscal year.

I hope you all will take advantage of the numerous events taking place this summer including Alumni Gatherings in Washington DC and Denver on June 4 and 18th, the Trial Advocacy Reunion on June 11th, and the last of our Alumni CLE Series on Ethics on June 19th. I wish you well for the summer.

Successful Spring for Trial Advocacy & Moot Court Teams

Chicago-Kent's Trial Advocacy and Moot Court teams experienced tremendous success this past spring. Highlights from Moot Court's season include two national and three regional championships, four top oral advocate awards and two best brief honors. Meanwhile, the Trial Advocacy team of of Lucas Peters '15, Laura Henneman '15, Michael Glink '14, and Valerie Raedy '14 went undefeated as they captured the American Association of Justice National  Midwest Regional Championship and moved on to the national round. The Trial Advocacy team of Matthew McCarter '15, Allison Schaffer '15, Joshua Rehak '15 and Michael Zhang '15 managed a semi-final finish in their first competition together at the National Ethics Competition in Sacramento where Michael Zhang also earned Best Advocate honors. Congratulations to all our students and coaches for their hard-earned success!

Help Improve the Future of the Legal Profession By Taking this Simple Survey
The Attorney Trait Assessment and Profile Study gathers data on the personality traits of practicing attorneys in order to determine what makes a lawyer different from the population at large and lawyers within different practice areas from each other. The study is the second-largest of its kind, and the makers of the assessment have personally asked Chicago-Kent alumni to participate. With your help, future college students will be better able to determine whether to pursue a legal career, what practice area is right for them and even what classes to take during law school. Law firms will be better able to mentor and retain their people, and practicing attorneys will be better able to pursue their own career development. To take the assessment, click here.
