Today for C-K a Tremendous Success

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the tremendous display of support from the entire Chicago-Kent community during last week’s first-ever Today for C-K challenge. Thanks to the generosity of more than 370 donors, we raised more than $170,000 for the law school in just 24 hours. Incredible!

From start to finish, the Today for C-K challenge was a group effort. Steve Jambois ’82 and Al Schwartz ’84 led the way with their $50,000 challenge gift, Ann Cresce '94 gave an additional incentive with her $10,000 challenge gift, and the Chicago-Kent faculty provided one final push with their $30,000 matching gift. The entire Chicago-Kent community truly pulled together to help make the day a success. Gifts came in from across the globe, as far away as China, Egypt, Georgia, Italy and Australia, as well as right here at home. Forty-nine staff and faculty members made gifts, and 92 donors made a gift for the first time. Forty-eight different class years were represented, and more than 75 students, alumni and faculty volunteered to spread the word through phone calls, emails and social media outreach. What a day for Chicago-Kent!

Thank you all, and I look forward to celebrating with many of you at the 2014 Alumni Awards Celebration on Thursday, November 20.

Sincerely,

Harold J. Krent
Dean and Professor of Law

Chicago-Kent Receives Diversity Champion Award

Deadline for Solo and Small Practice Incubator Applications Extended to January 15, 2015

The deadline to apply for the Solo & Small Practice Incubator (SSPI) has been extended to January 15, 2015. The SSPI is a one-year program designed to offer a select group of entrepreneurial-minded recent Chicago-Kent graduates with valuable experience and ongoing training to help build their professional careers as solo or small firm legal practitioners. The program is intended to accelerate the successful development of newly admitted lawyers in an "incubator" environment. Participation is limited to recent graduates of Chicago-Kent, with preference given to members of the Class of 2014. Download an application here.

The SSPI also needs alumni to serve as mentors to SSPI participants. For more information, email Katie Aune at kaune@kentlaw.iit.edu.

Chicago-Kent October Alumni Events

October was a great month for the Alumni Association. On October 16, Chicago-Kent alumnae met their student mentees at the Society of Women in Law's mentorship reception. On October 23 and 24, the Alumni Association traveled to Washington D.C. for receptions with area alumni and those in town for the AIPLA annual meeting and the Equal Justice Works Conference. Finally, on October 29, we participated in the first-ever Today for C-K challenge, which raised more than $170,000 for the law school from more than 370 alumni and friends of Chicago-Kent. Thank you to all who made October such a success!
