Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions that are not addressed below, please contact the Alumni Association at alums@kentlaw.edu or (312) 906-5240.

What email services does Chicago-Kent provide?

As a Chicago-Kent graduate, the Alumni Association is pleased to offer you the option of setting up an @alumni.kentlaw.edu email forwarding address through our email forwarding service. This service is available through the Chicago-Kent Alumni Online Community and allows you to choose a username@alumni.kentlaw.edu address that will be forwarded to your specified personal email account (e.g. gmail, yahoo, or work email, etc).

This address is NOT a “real” email address with an email inbox. Instead, when emails are sent to this address, they are automatically forwarded to the personal email box you specified.

The benefit of an email forwarding address is that you won't have to notify everyone in your address book of a new or discontinued email address because you can simply update your personal email address by logging into the Online Community, and emails will subsequently be forwarded to your new email address.

Please note: Any emails sent to the @kentlaw.edu address you used as a student DO NOT automatically get sent to your alumni forwarding address. You must notify any contacts of your new alumni.kentlaw.edu address.

In order to access email forwarding, you must be logged into the Alumni Online Community. Click here to sign up now!

However, all alumni are listed in the online directory, which is part of the Alumni Online Community. In addition to its many other great features, the Community allows you to send emails to alumni and view basic information. How do I find a Chicago-Kent alumnus/a in X city/state to which I can refer a client?

The Alumni Online Community contains an advanced search option that allows you to search for Chicago-Kent Alumni by city, state, country, practice area, and several other parameters.

To search the Directory, log on to the Alumni Online Community and click "Alumni Directory" in the right-hand navigation bar. At the top of the page, click "Advanced Search." For best results, we suggest you choose only one parameter at a time, as each will limit your results. For example, if you choose to search Chicago in both the home city and the business city at once, the search will ONLY bring up people who both live AND work in Chicago.

If you have not already joined the Alumni Online Community, you may sign up here.

The Library welcomes alumni to visit and use the collection throughout the year, except during fall & spring final examination periods when the Library is under restricted access. Alumni are also welcome to use the Library's reference services. A professional librarian can help answer general reference questions by phone at (312) 906-5670, by email at refreq@kentlaw.edu, through instant messaging, or in person at the Reference Desk. Please note that librarians cannot provide legal advice.

Most of the collection cannot be checked-out; however, if you do wish to borrow circulating books, you can become a subscriber for a yearly fee (currently $150 for an individual membership). Subscribers can use the Library's document delivery program and check-out books, and they have access to the Library during restricted access periods. More information on the subscriber program is located on the Library’s website at: http://library.kentlaw.edu/services/subscribers.htm

The Library’s website contains valuable information such as the Library’s hours, maps of the different floors, and the online catalog. If you need to know whether the Library has a particular book or journal, you may search the online catalog or ask the Reference Desk.

If you have any questions about the Library or any of its services, please contact Keith Ann Stiverson, Library Director at (312) 906-5610.
