2008 Public Interest Awards
and Networking Reception
On Tuesday, April 22, Chicago-Kent honored alumni and students who better our communities through their work and commitment to Public Interest.
Two outstanding alumni, Jane McBride ’95 and Julie G. Sollinger ’96, received the 2008 Honorable Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Public Interest Award. Students in the Public Interest Law Program were also honored for their work and commitment to Public Interest.
In addition, the law school announced its commitment to Public Interest by launching a Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), providing school loan repayment financial aid for graduates who take lower-paying public interest positions. Applications for the program will be available next fall, and more information can be found at www.kentlaw.edu/publicinterest/lrap/.

The Marovitz Public
Interest Law Award
Chicago-Kent
College of Law enjoys a rich tradition of legal activism and public
interest work. In honor of one of our most renowned alumni in
this field, each year the The Hon. Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Public
Interest Law Award is given to Chicago-Kent
alumni who have graduated in the last 15 years who have demonstrated
outstanding public interest leadership, and who most reflect “the
character, life and work of the Honorable
Abraham Lincoln Marovitz '25.” The award
carries with it a significant stipend.
With the salary discrepancy between public interest attorneys
and corporate lawyers, few graduates can afford to pursue a career
in public interest law given that the average Chicago-Kent student
graduates with almost $90,000 in student loans.
The Marovitz Award draws attention to the importance
of public interest work, and thereby encourages students to take
positions in this area.
The 2008 award recipients are:
- Jane McBride ’95, Senior Assistant Attorney General, Illinois Attorney General’s Environmental Bureau
- Julie G. Sollinger, Esq '96, Assistant Public Guardian, Juvenile Division, Cook County Office of the Public Guardian.
