The Office of Alumni Relations is pleased to be planning your commencement. Commencement details, Directions, and FAQs are available on the Commencement Portal at www.kentlaw.edu/commencement. This site is updated regularly. It is your responsibility to check the site and your kent email frequently for the most up to date information. Contact commencement@kentlaw.edu with questions or call (312) 906-5240 M-F, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Commencement Details

The Chicago-Kent College of Law Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 in the Arie Crown Theater, located inside McCormick Place's Lakeside Center (east of Lake Shore Drive) at 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL.

Gradutes: Please arrive between 11:30 am and 12:45 pm and proceed to Hall E (directional signs will be posted) to receive your cap and gown and to line-up. Please allow at least 20 minutes to park and walk to the Theater.

The commencement ceremony will begin at 2:00. Doors will open for general seating at 1:00 pm. Doors will open for guests needing special assistance at 12:50 pm.

A champagne reception will follow the ceremony. For more information, please click here.

Parking, Dropping-Off and Entering the Theater

Parking: We recommend parking in the Lakeside Underground Garage, also known as Lot C, located on the east side of Lake Shore Drive. You will see an entrance to Lot C off Fort Dearborn Road heading north to the Lakeside Center. The parking fee for the day is $16. In the event that the Lakeside Underground Garage is filled, additional parking is available at the 31st Street, Soldier Field and Martin Luther King Parking Lots.

*Please Note: It can take 15-20 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Theater, so please allow extra time when arriving at the venue.

Dropping-Off Passengers:  To drop-off passengers, please use Gate 31 or Gate 37. To get to these gates, bypass the entrance to Lot C and follow Fort Dearborn Road north through the building.  You will pass Gates 30 – 33. To continue to Gate 37, watch for a sign to turn right, as you should make the turn before heading back outside. Once you drop passengers off, the road will loop back to the entrance for Lot C Parking.

Special Assistance: Wheelchairs for guests who need assistance walking to the Theater, as well as a check-area for anyone bringing strollers will be available at Gate 37. Strollers are not allowed into the Theater and should be checked in.  For more information on special assistance needs, please click here.

*Please Note:  Gates are NOT accessible once you enter the parking garage.

Entering the Theater: Each guest entering the Theater (except for graduates and children under the age of 2) must present an official Commencement ticket to the ushers.  There is only one entrance to the Theater, accessible from the foyer between Gates 31 and 37.

After the ceremony, cabs will be available at Gate 30 for your convenience.

For Public Transit accessibility, detailed driving directions, and more information, please visit the Commencement Venue Information page.

2008 Class Gift

As of May 9, 2008 we have raised $5,752 of our $11,000 goal.

Why Donate to the Class Gift?

Here's why some of your classmates gave:

  • “Few people outside of Chicago-Kent currently know about the school or where it is. Signage will enhance Kent's reputation, benefiting students past, present, and future!”

  • “I enjoyed my experience here and am donating as sign of appreciation for my opportunity to learn from great professors and fellow students.”

  • “I care about Kent's reputation. What better way to show your support then to give Kent a facelift.”

  • "I think it is important that we leave a little bit of ourselves at this school when we leave…We are a fantastic school, in fact, one of the best in the city, and people need to know this. By starting to turn the West Loop into the "Chicago-Kent Campus area" we gain recognition, reputation, and will become a permanent institution and a recognized place of higher learning.”
