Keynote Speaker

GEORGE YIN
Howard W. Smith Professor of Law
University of Virginia School of Law

George Yin recently returned to the University of Virgina School of Law after serving as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Congress's Joint Committee on Taxation, one of the most influential tax positions in the country.

Before joining the University of Virginia law faculty in 1994, Professor Yin was a member of the law faculty at the University of Florida. He previously served as tax counsel to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee where he coordinated a major project to reform and simplify the tax laws dealing with corporate-shareholder transactions, including corporate mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations. He has also been a visiting professor at NYU Law School, Pennsylvania, and Brigham Young.

Professor Yin has served as a consultant to a number of organizations, including the Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Joint Committee on Taxation, the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service, and the Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means.

Experience with the New Tax Compliance and Accounting Environment, Including Uncertain Tax Positions
»Today’s tax directors are facing challenges on a number of different fronts. Increased focus on internal controls as mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has brought heightened scrutiny by both internal and external auditors on the income tax accounting function. Recent FASB activity in connection with Uncertain Tax Positions has further increased focus on income tax accounting issues. Requirements for disclosing reportable transactions add to the complex environment. The panel will discuss the impact of recent developments on tax accounting from both technical and process perspectives.

Cancellations and Refunds

MCLE Credit
