the charitable donor under the income, gift, estate

rules for tax-exempt organizations and the increasing availability of these
tax forms on the Internet, the information they include will likely be

in the preparation of Forms 990 and 990-PF and will highlight sections
and issues for non-accountants to concentrate on in reviewing or helping
prepare their organizations’ or clients’ returns.

by the staff of the Illinois Attorney General’s Charitable Trusts Bureau

Joint Ventures: Tax Issues and Implications of
the Redlands
Case
Participation by tax-exempt organizations
in joint ventures with for-profit participants
has recently become the subject of intense debate and scrutiny.
The IRS has addressed the issue in Revenue
Ruling 98-15 and the Ninth Circuit will
be addressing the issue on appeal from the Tax Court decision in
Redlands Surgical Services v. Commissioner.
This workshop will provide an in depth
review of these recent developments and a critical discussion of their
implications for joint ventures, management
agreements and other arrangements between
exempt and proprietary participants. Practical planning suggestions
for pursuing such arrangements without jeopardizing exemption and
generating unrelated business income tax liability
will be explored.

Accounting Update–Year 2000 Issues
This session will provide an overview
of a standard and statements of position (SOP)
impacting not-for-profit organizations. The new standard discusses
the transfers of assets between a not-for-profit
that raises or holds contributions and another
related beneficiary organization and follows the Exposure Draft issued
in a prior year. The two new SOP’s address
joint activities and start-up activities. The
session will discuss these new requirements and will also present
charitable split dollar life insurance policies and IRS scrutiny of such
transactions. Finally, technical practice
aids questions and answers that affect not-for-profits
will be discussed and an update on the FASB consolidation project-
exposure draft will be presented.

$130 per person is available to those not-for-profits less than 3 years
old, with a budget less than $250,000. Proof of incorporation and
annual budget must be sent with the registration form in order to receive
this special rate. A special rate of $130 is available to Chicago-Kent
College of Law Alumnae/i. Please indicate the month and year of graduation
on the registration form.
Confirmation of Registration: A
letter will be mailed to you at the address given on your registration
form. No other confirmation of your registration will be provided.
Confirmation of Attendance: A certificate
of attendance will be provided at registration.
Cancellation and Refunds: Written notification
of cancellation is required. A full tuition refund is available if notification
is received prior to May 12, 2000; 25% will be charged if notification
is received between May 12 and June 2, 2000. No refunds will be granted
after June 2, 2000.
