37th Annual Section 1983 Civil Rights Litigation Conference

Join us on Thursday and Friday, April 23-24, 2020 for Professor Sheldon Nahmod’s 37th Annual Section 1983 conference. The conference features nationally prominent law professors and practitioners who offer instruction on both the fundamentals and the more advanced aspects of §1983 practice and trial skills, and analyze the latest case decisions.

Law students (JD only) enrolled at Chicago-Kent are welcome to attend any or all of the program sessions free of charge. Course materials and reception are not included; however, copies of the materials will be available in the library after the program.

If you are interested in volunteering to work at the conference, in exchange for an opportunity to network at the program reception, please let us know when you stop by the office (Suite 673) to register, or by e-mailing cle@kentlaw.iit.edu. Pre-registration is required no later than Monday, April 20, 2020.

42nd Annual Kenneth M. Piper Lecture

On Thursday, April 30, 2020 the law school will present the 42nd annual Kenneth M. Piper Lecture. Scott L. Cummings, Robert Henigson Professor of Legal Ethics and Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law is the lecturer for this year's Kenneth M. Piper Lecture, "Catalyzing Localism: What Is New about the Green New Deal?" In this lecture, Professor Cummings examines the influence of the Green New Deal on state and local labor policy, and discusses the potential and tradeoffs of programs that seek to combine sustainable environmental change with structural labor reform. Drawing on evidence from big cities around the country, he explores some of the challenges that have confronted efforts to incorporate labor standards into ambitious proposals to address climate change, and considers the conditions under which the Green New Deal might work better for workers. 39th Annual Federal Tax Institute

On Thursday, May 28, 2020 Chicago-Kent will present the 39th Annual Federal Tax Institute. Nationally recognized tax advisors will provide a comprehensive, practical update on the latest newsworthy tax developments and their impact on tax planning, compliance and controversy techniques for attorneys, accountants, corporate tax directors and staff.
