ATTENTION - ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN DERIVATIVES AND COMMODITIES LAW 

The 22nd annual Derivatives and Commodities Law Institute 

On Thursday and Friday, October 28-29, 1999, the law school will host the 22nd annual Derivatives and Commodities Law Institute at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel located at 17 East Monroe Street in Chicago.  CFTC Chairman William J. Rainer will present the opening remarks  and then join  Robert K. Wilmouth, President of NFA; Kathryn Trkla, Associate General Counsel, CBOT; William T. Maitland, Executive Managing Director and Chief Legal Officer, Nomura Securities International; and Dean Henry H. Perritt, Jr., for a roundtable discussion on The Financial Supermarket.  J. Joe Ricketts, Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Ameritrade will be the featured luncheon speaker. Topics to be addressed at this year's Institute include: UK Financial Regulation and the European Union,  Improving Counterparty Risk Management Practices, New OTC Commodity and Derivative Products,  Electronic Order Execution-The Legal Issues of Cyberspace and many more cutting-edge issues presented by distinguished panelists from the U.S. and Europe. 

Law  students (JD only) enrolled at Chicago-Kent are welcome to attend any or all of the program sessions free of charge (note:  course materials are not included; however, copies of the materials will be available in the library at a later date).  However, pre-registration is required!  To register, please stop by the Office of Continuing Legal and Professional Education (Suite 530) to fill out a registration form.  Students must register before or on Monday, October 25, 1999. 

ATTENTION - ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN LABOR LAW 

The 15th annual Public Sector Labor Relations Law Program 

On Friday, November 5, 1999, the law school will host the 15th annual Public Sector Labor Relations Law Program. This conference is designed for lawyers whose practice involves labor law, local government law or school law; state and local government and public education officials, administrators and labor relations officers; union officials, business agents and uniserv directors; and arbitrators and mediators.  The opening plenary features Dr. Linda Duxbury, Professor and Director of Research, Carleton Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work, School of Business, Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada who will address the topic, "Work-Family Issues in the Workplace."  This will be followed by concurrent workshops on IPLRA Developments, the Margins of the Statute: Who's In and Who's Out, Workplace Violence and Public Education, FMLA and ADA Developments, Privacy Rights in Public Employment, IELRA Developments, Police and Firefighter Issues, Resolving Grievances Effectively , State and Local EEO Laws, Public Employer Liability under Federal Employment Statutes, Litigating at the Labor Boards, the Interplay between Civil Service Statutes and Collective Bargaining, FLSA Developments, Interest Arbitration, and Workplace Violence. The workshop format provides participants with the opportunity to discuss specific issues with experts in the public sector labor relations field.
