Illinois Public Sector Labor Relations Law Program

On Friday, October 19, 2007, the law school will present the 23rd annual Conference on Illinois Public Sector Labor Relations Law. The opening plenary session features Ralph M. Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, who will address the topic "The State of Public Agency Budgets and Its Impact on the Public Sector Workplace." His speech will be followed by concurrent hands-on, interactive workshops on several hot button topics of current interest: IELRA Developments, Garcetti: One Year Later, Police & Firefighter Forum, Handling Investigatory Interviews, IPLRA Developments, Hot Issues in the Education Sector, Top 5 Mistakes Parties Make or How to Lose Your Case, Privatization, Ethical Issues in Arbitration and Related Proceedings, Retiree Benefits Update & Hot Issues, Interest Arbitration, Technology Issues in the Public Workplace, Ethical Issues in Negotiations, Effective Grievance Processing, EEO Update, The Many Sources of Leave-What's New, What's Not.

Law students (JD only) enrolled at Chicago-Kent are welcome to attend any or all of the program sessions free of charge. Course materials, luncheon and reception are not included, however, copies of the materials will be available in the library after the program.

If you are interested in volunteering to work at the conference, in exchange for complementary course materials and an opportunity to network at the conference luncheon and reception, please let us know when you stop by the office (Suite 675) to register, or by e-mailing dvilla@kentlaw.edu. Pre-registration is required no later than Monday, October 15th.

Distinguished Labor Leader Lecture

October 30, 2007

On Tuesday, October 30, Chicago-Kent's Institute for Law and the Workplace and the Chicago Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO will present the eighth annual Distinguished Labor Leader Lecture, featuring Joseph T. Hansen, International President, United Food and Commercial Workers. The lecture will take place in the auditorium at 1:00 p.m. There will be a pre-lecture reception at 12:00 noon.

All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.
