is an evening student at Chicago-Kent and our new Administrative Manager.
She replaces Sirat Attapit who left to join the law school's Alumnae/i
Office as the new Assistant Director. We are grateful to Sirat for
her expertise and dedication to our office and wish her well in her new

Job Posting System
August 21, 2000, job postings will no
longer be accessible via the internal Web page. Students will be
able to access job postings via the internet and the local area network
on the LawCareer password-secured site. Current
students must pick up their password in the CSO.
Passwords will not be given out over the phone.
Did you clerk at a law firm this summer?
Volunteer for a public interest organization? Serve as a summer associate?
Research for a professor? Work for a government agency? Take
summer classes or study abroad? If so, we want to know about it!
We would appreciate it if all returning students
would take a few minutes to complete our "Summer Experience Survey," available
in the handout racks outside the CSO and in the Spakateria. Simply
return the form to our office and fill out a raffle ticket to win one of
a number of prizes. Winners will be announced in the Record at
the end of September.

Now that fall interviewing is in full swing, the CSO staff wants to
wish everyone the best of luck. We know this is a stressful time
so rembember to relax, be yourself and remain positive throughout the interviewing
Student interview schedules will be available
for pickup on Friday, September 1st and Tuesday, September 5th until 5
p.m. Make a copy of your schedule for safekeeping and record all
interviews in your planner, palm pilot, etc. On campus interviews
will begin Wednesday, September 6th.
Air Force JAG Corps Interviews
For the most up to date information on the Fall Interview Program, check
out the "2000
Fall Interviewing Program: Student Information for 2001 & 2002 Graduates"
page or the CSO bulletin board on a daily basis.
Bring an extra copy of your resume, a transcript,
and a writing sample to every interview.
Allow ample travel time prior to an interview, even
if you are already on campus.
Callbacks and Offers: Please let us know how you are faring in the
program! E-mail our office about any callbacks or offers you receive
from on campus interviews or job fairs. If you accept an offer,
please let us know so we can cancel the remainder of your on-campus interviews.
Policy for Missing an Interview: Please remember to talk to Jeanne
or Maureen if you have an emergency that will prevent you from attending
an interview scheduled through the fall interview program. Any student
who misses an interview for reasons other than an emergency will not be
permitted to participate in the remainder of the program. Thank you for
Thank You Notes: You do not need to send thank you notes after on-campus
interviews. Well written notes should be sent after call backs or
initial interviews in an employer's office.

One of the best ways to prepare for upcoming interviews is to participate
in a mock interview. Debbi Gutman will conduct mock interviews, by
appointment only, in the CSO on Wednesday,
September 13 from 10:30-7 p.m.
Submit a resume 24 hours in advance of your
appointment and indicate the employer-type you want her to assume in the
mock interview. You are encouraged to come dressed as
you would for an actual interview. Sessions are videotaped, after
which you will receive a candid critique of your current interviewing skills
while watching the video. Students interested in keeping a copy of
their session are encouraged to bring their own blank videotape to the

Wondering what else is out there aside from large
firm employment? Here's your chance to find out. On Tuesday,
September 12, at noon in Room 270, bring
your lunch and listen to a panel of practitioners from a small and a mid-size
firm, a corporation and a public interest organization discuss what it's
like to practice law in their firm or organization and provide tips and
strategies for finding employment outside of large firms. Don't miss
this opportunity to learn what else awaits you outside of large firm employment.

of Justice Informational Program
Department of Justice representative Eleanor
Barry, Assistant Director in the Office of Attorney Personnel Management,
will speak at an informational meeting on Thursday,
September 14, at 5:30 p.m. at
Loyola University Chicago School of Law in Room 110.
The presentation will introduce students to the Attorney General's Honor
Program and Summer Law Intern Program and will answer questions about the
work of the Department, eligibility issues, the interview process, and
security and suitability issues. Students are strongly encouraged
to attend to get the inside scoop on the DOJ.
Informational packets regarding opportunities
for entry-level attorneys and law students at the DOJ are available in
the handout racks of the CSO. Applications for the Attorney General's
Honor Program for 3Ls is also available in the handout racks. Applications
for the Summer Law Intern Program for 2Ls can be downloaded off the Web
at www.usdoj.gov/oapm. Both
applications must be received by the DOJ no later than September 25, 2000.
York Law Firm Interested in German Attorneys
Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, an international
law firm with offices in New York, Washington, Paris, Brussels, London,
Frankfurt, Rome, Hong Kong and Tokyo is sponsoring a symposium for German

Worker Positions Available in the CSO
Want to earn some extra cash? If so, the
CSO is currently accepting applications for student workers. We seek
applicants who can work days and one evening shift on Wednesday until 7
p.m. Interested applicants should submit a resume and available times

The CSO receives numerous notices throughout the year about internships
(paid & unpaid); fellowships; judicial clerkships; and miscellaneous
opportunities that would be of interest to our students. Detailed

The NAPIL Career Fair and Conference represents
a unique opportunity for students and graduates to meet and interview with
employers from across the country in a single location. Last year,
more than 225 employers and over 1,100 students and graduates from 167
